I got to know Erik Mitisek a few years ago through our work together on the Startup Colorado board. A year ago when Erik told me about the idea for Built In Denver I was super excited, as I was already familiar with Built in Chicago and the impact it was having on the Chicago startup community. So I encouraged him and told him I’d be supportive in any way I could.

Three months ago when Erik told me they were rebranding to be Built In Colorado, I was even more excited. For the last few years, along with a number of entrepreneurial leaders, I’ve had a great time helping tighten the links between the Boulder startup community and the Denver startup community. Leaders in each city have invested lots of time in understanding the other city, building real, functional connections between the two startup communities, and in many cases helping each city amp up its startup community, even if the leader didn’t live there.

It’s very rewarding to reflect on the progress of Built In Colorado over its first year. There are now over 2,000 registered members, an advisory board and community board that nicely cuts across both Boulder and Denver, and enormous amount of content on the site, and an accelerating number of community events.

Built In Colorado aspires to be a resource for entrepreneurs throughout Colorado. Look for more focus on Ft. Collins and Colorado Springs, including many of the same engagement approaches that are effectively knitting together Boulder and Denver in a more powerful way.

An online community is only as strong as its members engagement. Don’t be bashful about connecting with me or reaching out any time. Let’s help Built In Colorado as it continues to help accelerate the Colorado startup community.
