Epic River Senior Partner Jeff Grobaski said he and his partners wanted to create an atypical software development company that was focused on improving the process of building a product. “We have seen so many companies live and die by the just one product,” he said. “The creation and growth phases of product development are fun and exciting; but the back side of the product curve can be fatal to so many organizations.”

Epic River was founded in Loveland in 2005 with the concept that if a product goes away, it goes away, but the company stays and continues to thrive. It was funded by the sale of a company with offices in Westminster and Washington, DC, where Grobaski and one of his partners, Steve Wood, met.

Grobaski explains that there are two sides to his company, the project side that tends to focus on shorter-term work to solve specific problems for one client; and the product side, which he says uses project work to inspire innovation: “For example, we did some work for a local property management company. That uncovered the opportunity for us to provide data services to the rental property management market. That allowed us to create a recurring-revenue-generating product for the market.”

The company focuses primarily on helping its customers manage financial transactions, including patient financing for the medical field, and real estate transactions, helping management companies and investor groups that need data for acquisitions. The team consists primarily of business analysts and software developers, and their work is centered around user interface design, user story definitions, system architecture, development, and quality assurance.

The company is still growing, and recently relocated from its office on 287 north of Loveland to become the second tenant at the Rocky Mountain Center for Innovation and Technology.
