Recruiting On The Move

April 5, 2016

It’s only the beginning of 2016 and the Engineering department has already had one of their busiest months yet! February was filled with multiple university career fairs, a Return to Work Panel, our Engineering Recruiting Open House, and last but not least, a Women Who Code Winter Hackathon that took place here at our SpotX office. How did we manage to get it all done? With the joint efforts of the amazing Recruiting team, a ton of awesome Engineers, and dynamic Marketing team, we managed to pull off a very successful month of recruiting for SpotX while having a ton of fun doing it.

First Stop ⇒ Career Fairs!

SpotX’s all-star Recruiting team attended three university career fairs over a span of two weeks to create buzz about SpotX and our open jobs to potential Interns and new grads. First up was the Colorado School of Mines Spring Career Fair. Mines is always a success for SpotX since we began attending in 2012. This time around we brought along a few Mines Alumni SpotXers – it was great to see them connect with new students and reconnect with some of their past classmates and friends.

The following week, we attended Colorado State University and University of Denver for our very first time. Going to these career fairs gave us more insight and exposure to different universities and access to a vast variety of engineering students that were eager to join SpotX. Altogether, it was a very successful time at all three fairs and we made some great connections with both students and faculty.

Everyone at SpotX works hard, but Bella Vitale, our Recruiting Coordinator, goes the extra mile when she finds the elevator broken at one of the career fairs we attended. She took it upon herself to take our suitcase up the stairs to our car. Go Bella!

Panel Time ⇒ Return to Work Tech Panel with SpotX & NCWIT

SpotX joined the Return to Work (now PathForward) Program last fall and had one Returnee complete the program. During that time, SpotX hosted a Return to Work Tech Panel with all participating Return to Work companies, NCWIT and the returnees of the program. The Panel was made up of employees from SpotX, Return Path and NCWIT and centered on topics like career gaps, gaining employment in technical roles and resources.

The Most Anticipated Event ⇒ Engineering Open House

Once again, our Engineering Recruiting Open House was a hit. Our total attendees turned out to be around 65 people, making this the best open house yet. We were excited to see how many people came out to learn more about SpotX and meet our Engineers.

This time we wanted to try something new, so we put on “speed interviewing” for our attendees. This gave everyone interested one-on-one time to meet our engineers and hiring managers. Attendee feedback was positive in that they got specific time to ask questions and talk exclusively about openings they were most interested in. Our interviewers felt they gained good insight into the candidates and were able to give a good understanding about what it’s like working at SpotX.

Ready, Set, Hack ⇒ Women Who Code Winter Hackathon with SpotX!

SpotX partnered up with Women Who Code to host a Winter Hackathon here at SpotX’s office. With catered breakfast and lunch, hackers gathered at SpotX to hack away and create something that was winter-themed, even though it ended up being 60 degrees outside on that day. We had a group of our own SpotX Engineers here to assist with any questions and technical issues. This was a competition, so each team presented their final project and the winning team members received a variety of different prizes. With SpotX being a huge advocate of NCWIT, it was great to see such a talented group of women coders get together and have fun doing what they love to do best.
