The Software Quality Assurance Architect provides technical leadership and strategic direction to the testing organization. They help formulate, develop, and implement the test architecture and strategy to meet organizational needs.  The QA Architect helps to ensure that the proper level of testing is being done during each stage of the software development lifecycle, and for each tier/layer in the web application.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Define the test automation strategy in collaboration with technical leadership and QA management.
  • Pro-actively analyzes current processes and practices and suggests/drive improvements. Define new processes as needed.
  • Drive quality across all disciplines, provide guidance to improve quality practices across development and engineering teams.  Helps to define and implement quality gates for all levels of the application development.
  • Owns the data testing strategy.  Recommend and drive the test approach for enterprise-level data changes.  Establish the appropriate level of testing required at each tier/layer of the application, verifying data mapping and transformation from raw file/feed all the way through to UI presentation.  Act as a consult to the individual testers/teams responsible for verifying application-specific data. 
  • Responsible for the development and enhancement of scalable test automation frameworks. Contribute to approach for all levels of test automation (unit, middle tier, API, functional/UI, performance). Coach teams in implementing effective test automation techniques. 
  • Influences technical direction and use of technologies after making necessary evaluations.  Responsible for selection and adoption of new test tools.
  • Produce metrics and reports to quantify and showcase automation coverage, defect escape rates, ROI, etc. 
  • Champions an Agile methodology and guide teams in how to most effectively approach and structure testing within two-week sprints.
  • Works with technical architect and developers/engineers to implement Continuous Integration.
  • Collaborates regularly with offshore and onshore resources.

 

Education and experience:

  • BS in Computer Science or similar field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extensive experience as a test engineer or SDET.  Some of that experience should include serving in a leadership role.
  • Extensive experience with open-source automation technologies such as Selenium Web Driver, Cucumber, Mocha, Jasmine, NUnit, Jmeter.  Includes creating and updating frameworks.
  • Strong experience in database and API testing.
  • Solid knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts.  Fluent in one or more programing languages such as Javascript, C#, Java.
  • Good understanding of front end web development, JS, CSS, HTML and SQL.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Be comfortable configuring test environments like web servers, browsers, and application installations.
  • Experience with native mobile apps or responsive design is a plus.

  • Knowledge of current industry wide quality and test processes and practices, tools and techniques.
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams. The “ability to influence” despite not having direct reporting relationships is very key. 
  • Excellent communication and effective negotiation skills.
  • Works in tandem and close co-operation with management, keeping management updated of developments, seeking and providing inputs and feedback, regular reporting, etc.
  • Ability to focus and prioritize is important.  Individuals should be self-motivated and a self-starter.
  • Results oriented.  Can define and set goals, then see them to completion.  Removes roadblocks and inspires others.
  • Continuous learning to constantly update skills and keep abreast of current developments in the industry is vital.
  • Ability to strategize and look ahead and at the big picture.
  • Sound Project Management abilities are important.
