Vertafore is seeking a talented, energetic and self-driven individual to join our Platform Tools team. Employees in this role design, develop (code), test, and maintain tools to aid development efforts and assist in system automation. They partner with product teams and operations to automate, deploy, and test software delivery. 

 

• Develops tools code, or code for new features based on tools specifications or refactoring code for existing tools

• Develops new software delivery tools (e.g., packages, plug-ins) to deliver software more predictably and accurately; shares new tools with the team

• Develops deployment code for new features based on new product specifications or refactoring deployment code for existing products; checks own code for quality and participates in code reviews and grooming

• Provides input into overall deployment systems including frameworks, tools, and reusable libraries, gives input on deployment criteria and estimates of work time

• Creates deployment plans for more complex features or aspects of products and ensures end-to-end deployment of the product.

• Coordinates deployment between products, and looks for best practices to incorporate into deployment frameworks

• Communicates with Product Teams and Hosting Engineers to plan and prioritize deployments, and clarify ownership of common practices to avoid redundancies

• Researches new deployment techniques and strategies to continue developing own understanding of deployment principles

• Completes end-to-end deployment for more complex products including writing and implementing automation for deployments

• Monitors deployments and provides continuous maintenance on code checked-in

• Completes tasks to ensure builds and deployments meet quality and internal standards (for programming, tooling, frameworks, architecture)

• Identifies and communicates risks to engineering leadership

 

Skills & Requirements

• Experience in software deployment design and implementation (scripting language, source control, builds, deployments) Windows and Linux

• Experience with Artifactory or another repository 

• Experience with Chef or another infrastructure automation tool 

• Experience with software development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Agile, or LEAN)

• Developing or deploying enterprise or commercial software

• Working on a variety of different languages, technologies, and environments

• Working within a team

• Working with offsite, offshore and/or vendor teams

• Broad understanding of engineering principles and deployment methodology, including the software development lifecycle

• Knowledge of and experience with software theory and design, software deployment process, process improvement methods, software systems integration, and database theory and design

• Ability to learn and apply various tools, methodologies, and frameworks

• Demonstrated ability to stay up-to-date with technology changes

• Experience with Jenkins or another tool

• Experience with Source Control and software builds

• Understanding of networking components (F5, firewall, dns, domains) and security concepts

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related degree) or demonstrated relevant experience
