Shutterstock’s Systems Engineering Team is on a mission to empower engineers to be able to architect and deploy applications. We aim to leverage a wide range of technologies to build a self-service system to enable product teams and developers to build and scale services rapidly.

As a part of the Storage Engineering team your engineering skills will be focused on the architecture, provisioning, and support of storage services. The role is a combination of managing storage platforms (EMC/ECS & S3) and relevant access layers (authentication, orchestration).

Responsibilities:

• Work effectively as part of a team to monitor, log, resolve, and escalate storage issues.
• Maintain and improve code related to storage services.
• Performance analysis and capacity planning for all layers of the storage service.
• Deep understanding of network protocols related to storage and web services.
• Deep knowledge of OS and hardware systems internals.
• Manage enterprise class storage platforms for both object storage and NFS.
• Provide developer and operations documentation.
• Able to effectively manage vendor relationships and escalate problems.

Requirements:

• Significant experience working with large storage platforms, web, and networking technologies and protocols.
• Proven experience building and scaling out and managing large distributed services.
• Clear understanding of Linux system and network internals. Should be familiar with tools related to troubleshooting at very low levels.
• The ability to write code in GoLang
• 2+ years of enterprise storage and open source storage experience.
• 2+ years of AWS/Cloud experience.
• 2+ years of Puppet experience.
• 4+ years of experience with running a large infrastructure service.
• 3+ years of SRE or System Administration/Engineering experience.
• Monitoring: New Relic, Check_MK (OMD) or Nagios.
• Revision control: Git, Github, etc.

Bonus Skills:

• The ability to move up and down the stack (can debug web applications, the backend systems behind them, and have an understanding of the network and protocol concepts in between).
• Understanding of load balancers.
• VMWare or related virtualization experience.
