One of the most critical roles that will support our immediate, near and long term goals is a Senior Staff Accountant.

As our first Staff Accountant, you will report to Guild’s Director of Finance, Eric Doty. You’ll manage the performance of accounting transactions and systems to ensure the company’s accounting infrastructure and reporting is built on a solid foundation of scalability, integrity, and accuracy to support our rapidly growing business. This role will have a meaningful impact on the business and our students given the mission-critical nature of our invoicing and payments functions.

A day in our open, collaborative workspace will look a little like this:

  • Overseeing revenue accounting, revenue recognition, and accounts receivable, and reconciling cash received to outstanding invoices
  • Maintaining financial accounting under GAAP accounting standards
  • Overseeing AP and AR duties and general accounting activities (journal entries, close, prepaid expenses, inventory)
  • Supporting monthly accounting close process
  • Supporting a detailed rolling weekly/monthly cash flow forecast
  • Preparing month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial statements and reporting packages
  • Providing support on special requests and ad-hoc projects as necessary

In this role, you’ll bring skills and expand your expertise by:

  • Taking on a cross-functional role that will expose you to the ins and outs of Guild
  • Developing new ideas and best practices to improve / evolve accounting processes to support growth and scale
  • Building relationships with our learning providers and corporate partners as you facilitate direct billing and invoice processes

You’ll know if you’re successful by:

  • Ensuring critical accounting work-flows are compliant and effectively, accurately, and efficiently completed to support our business and teams
  • Partnering cross-functionally to ensure maintenance of employee data (including headcount reconciliations), QCing data, and developing improvements to the system
  • Anticipating problems, coming up with creative solutions, and helping refine our accounting processes and systems to drive continuous improvement
  • Receiving feedback through our learning-focused twice annual Structured Growth Conversations

What you’ll add to Guild - as an individual and part of the broader team:

  • A solid understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • A Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
  • A growth-oriented mindset reinforced by your enthusiasm for rapid iteration and prototyping
  • ~2-4 years of experience in similar or related roles in a fast-paced SaaS startup environment
  • Working knowledge of GAAP accounting, revenue recognition, and financial reporting procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of full-cycle general ledger accounting and internal controls
  • ERP and Microsoft Office suite experience -- specifically Excel
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, meet and establish deadlines, and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information and exercise good judgment and discretion in handling and disseminating information
  • Roll-up-the-sleeves, action oriented mindset to have an impact in a fast-paced, rapidly changing growth environment
  • A drive to work hard and a plan for how you can refresh and recharge while working in a startup
  • Experience at a Big 4 and CPA a plus
