Build and maintain high-quality applications for healthcare access. Collaborate with teams to enhance member experiences and mentor juniors.
Sana’s vision is simple yet bold: make healthcare easy.
We all know navigating healthcare in the U.S. is confusing, costly, and frustrating -- and our members are used to feeling that pain. That’s why we’re building something different: affordable health plans designed around Sana Care, our integrated care model connecting members with unlimited primary care and expert care navigation at no additional cost to them.
Whether it’s a quick prescription refill or guidance through a complex medical journey, Sana Care makes it feel effortless to get the right care at the right time. And for employers and brokers, we’ve built intuitive tools to make managing health benefits just as seamless.
Sana is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our small but growing team. In this role, you’ll directly influence how small businesses and their employees access affordable, high-quality care. We’re looking for someone who has demonstrated the ability to build, deploy, and maintain high-quality applications. You understand and use automated testing and know how to write clean, readable code. You are someone looking to push the boundaries of delivering convenient, simple, and personalized high-quality health benefits and care. If you’re ready to help thousands of members navigate the healthcare system with fewer headaches and lower costs, let’s talk!
We work primarily in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript but are open to those with differing backgrounds. You should have a solid understanding of how to build software that goes beyond the ability to use these tools.
If you love solving hard problems that make people’s lives easier, come build with us.
What you will do:

- Integrate data from claims, eligibility, and healthcare partners to deliver a seamless member experience
- Work on a team of talented product managers, designers, data scientists, and operations teams to solve problems together in a collaborative and creative environment
- Help maintain and extend internal products that accelerate growth, improve customer experience, and help keep our operations as efficient as possible
- Mentor and lead by sharing knowledge, setting best practices, and helping grow a culture of experimentation and innovation
- Participate in business problem solving and technical de-risking as appropriate as part of cross-functional teams
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to identify high-leverage AI use cases.
- Translate ambiguous problems into well-defined projects with measurable outcomes.
About you:
- 4+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience.
- Strong skills in object-oriented design and modern programming practices.
- Proficiency in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React (or strong interest and willingness to learn).
- Experience working in cloud environments (AWS) and with modern tooling (Docker, Elasticsearch, Postgres, Git, Linux).
- Excellent communicator who thrives in collaborative, fast-paced settings.
- A systems thinker who enjoys tackling complex challenges in healthcare, fintech, or similarly regulated industries.
- Bonus points if you have a background in healthtech, insurtech, or experience working with claims, eligibility, or healthcare data.
