Department Overview
The Sales Engineering Group is the technical lifeblood of the sales organization. Our engineers bring to life the innovative communications solutions that make a difference in the moments that matter. The Sales Engineering groups have the technology and design responsibility for all sales support engagements within the region. This position is within the T5 (Midwest) Projects Presale Engineering Team focusing a majority of the time on Missouri/Kansas projects.
Job Description

The Presales Engineer is the architect and owner of the solution design.  You will be responsible for working closely with the Sales Team to deliver customer driven, world class, leading edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of first responder agencies within the territory. The team concentrates on the following mission-critical communications technologies at various levels of complexity: Public Safety grade mobile/portable voice and data networks, Advanced Mobile devices, Public Safety mobile broadband networks and devices (LTE), Integrated Command & Control: 9-1-1 Dispatch Consoles, Mobile Video, Cybersecurity and more. The Sr. Presale Engineer will attend customer meetings, both remote and on-site, when required. The Sr. Presales Engineer may present system solutions to internal and external customers. In addition, this person will work closely with the Area Sales Manager and Presale Business Manager to understand, manage, and prioritize the presale opportunities within the Missouri, Kansas region.

This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Radio Coverage design and analysis 

  • Description of system design, including diagrams 

  • Calculation of power and networking requirements 

  • Participation in proposal reviews and contract negotiations 

  • Coordination with the various functional teams (Systems Integration, Service, Sales, Product Groups) to ensure all business unit goals are addressed in our proposals and win-strategies.

  • Development of the implementation approach and service plan necessary to win the project 

  • Meeting/exceeding customer requirements and providing value alternatives when requirements cannot be met

  • Managing to support Motorola’s sales, revenue, and margin goals

  • Driving all sole source & RFP (Request for Proposal) projects to completion 

  • Collaborating with project team members (engineering, proposal specialist, sales, and service) in the development of proposed solutions

  • Working with 3rd party vendors as needed to develop fully integrated solutions

  • Travel < 25%

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s of Science degree is required. Preferred emphasis in Electrical, Wireless, Computer, Network Engineering or Computer Science.

  • Seeking 4+ years of experience in sales engineering and/or solutions architecture.

  • Strong general knowledge of wireless communications fundamentals and voice/data architectures - both public and private (e.g. APCO P25, LTE, 802.11, 3G/4G) is highly desirable.

  • Strong general knowledge of IP networking architecture, protocols and security is highly desirable. 

  • Knowledge of RF coverage predictions, traffic/capacity modeling, and related toolsets is an asset.

  • A positive attitude with a can-do mentality that enables you to be creative, resourceful and deliver results

  • A strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to present complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Willingness to think out of the box and challenge the status quo.

  • Attention to detail and a drive to create high quality designs

Target Base Salary Range: $95,000 - $115,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
