Summary of Position
As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Teladoc Health, you’ll play a critical role in shaping how we build, test, release and run software across our global suite of healthcare solutions. You will lead high-impact initiatives focused on automation, reliability, scalability, and security—driving best-in-class DevOps practices across the organization.
In this highly collaborative position, you’ll partner with Engineering, Architecture, and Operations teams to solve complex infrastructure challenges and build repeatable, resilient systems that support our next-generation platform. If you are passionate about automation, metrics, cloud-native architecture, and making a real-world impact, we’d love to talk.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Engineer reliability in the codepath: profile hot paths, optimize queries/caching/queues, harden timeouts/retries/short circuits, introduce backpressure and idempotency.
Define pragmatic SLIs/SLOs that reflect real user experience: wire dashboards, traces, synthetics, and actionable alerts.
Close observability gaps and standardize golden signals across services and environments (dev → prod).
Lead and learn from incidents: restore service quickly, drive clear PIRs and corrective actions to completion.
Harden delivery: feature flags, canary/staged rollouts, automated smoke/perf gates, fast rollback.
Partner with Operations and Applications teams to improve MTTD/MTTR and alert hygiene; maintain highsignal oncall rotations by reducing toil.
Contribute to runtime and infrastructure reliability (Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform) and extend reusable modules/templates.
Coach developers and evangelize reliability patterns through reviews, RFCs/ADRs, runbooks, and internal workshops.
Required Qualifications
5+ years in SRE/Software/Platform roles; proven IC leadership across teams.
Hands-on with Azure (AWS or GCP acceptable), Kubernetes, Terraform.
Fluency in at least one backend language (Ruby (Preferred), Java/Scala, Node.js) and production debugging.
Experience with observability tools including New Relic/Grafana(preferred) (datadog, splunk Dynatrace acceptable); builds tracing/metrics/logging from scratch when needed.
CI/CD expertise with safe deploy patterns; experience adding perf/reliability gates.
Preferred Qualifications
Scope & Ownership: Leads reliability for multiple services or a critical domain; plans quarters of work with clear milestones.
Technical Depth: Strong debugging across distributed systems; comfortable landing code changes in unfamiliar services.
Operational Excellence: Acts as Incident Commander on complex events; improves runbooks, alerting, and oncall quality.
SLO Practice: Establishes SLIs/SLOs for critical workflows; uses error budgets to make rollout/rollback decisions with teams.
Influence: Mentors senior engineers, guides adjacent teams, and builds consensus with datadriven proposals.
Delivery: Breaks ambiguous reliability problems into small, shippable epics; ensures changes go out safely and measurably.
Excellent written/verbal communication and cross functional collaboration.
Technical Environment
Cloud & Orchestration: Azure, Kubernetes
IaC & Config: Terraform, Helm
Languages: Ruby/Rails, Java/Scala, Node.js (servicedependent)
Observability: New Relic, Grafana, tracing/logging pipelines
CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins; feature flags; safe rollout/rollback
Data: Postgres/MySQL query optimization, caching layers (Redis, Elastic), queues/streams (Kafka/Confluent Azure where applicable)
