About Riot Platforms

Riot Platforms, Inc. (“Riot”) is an industry leader dedicated to developing and operating large-scale data centers for high-performance computing and Bitcoin mining. With a vertically integrated strategy, Riot is actively expanding its mining operations, particularly in Texas and Kentucky, while also supporting innovation and growth through its engineering and fabrication teams in Denver, Colorado, and Houston, Texas.

Join us as we build the world’s leading digital infrastructure platform, now expanding into large-scale data centers for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI clients, while helping shape the future of digital assets and advanced computing.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to join our team at Riot Data Centers. The Senior Controls Engineer will establish standards, specifications, and approval frameworks for Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and SCADA infrastructure that ensures uptime across our portfolio. This role is for exceptional engineers who excel as technical gatekeepers - reviewing, approving, and guiding external design teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver world-class controls infrastructure supporting AI/ML workloads and mission-critical operations.

You'll be the technical conscience of $100M+ projects, ensuring every control system’s design meets Riot's exacting standards while driving innovation in automation, cybersecurity, and intelligent building systems. Additionally, you will support and help develop a high-performing team of controls engineers, setting clear expectations, guiding their professional development, and fostering an environment of technical excellence and team success.

This position will be based in our Denver office. Relocation assistance is available.

What You'll Do

  • Establish and maintain design standards for controls systems
  • Review and approve designs, specifications, and programming for BMS, EPMS, and SCADA
  • Lead technical risk assessments, QA/QC, and commissioning approvals
  • Oversee integration across mechanical, electrical, and IT/network systems
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to the engineering team

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in controls engineering; 5+ in mission-critical/data center environments
  • Strong expertise with BMS, EPMS, SCADA platforms and industrial protocols (BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, OPC-UA)
  • Proven success leading design reviews, vendor/consultant management, and large-scale project approvals
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to stakeholders and mentor team members
  • Bachelor of Science in Controls Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
  • Advanced certifications in controls systems, cybersecurity, or industrial automation preferred

Why Join Riot?

  • Be part of a fast-growing startup backed by Riot Platforms
  • Work on high-impact projects in AI, HPC, and Bitcoin infrastructure
  • Collaborate with top-tier engineers and innovators
  • Enjoy a fun, fast-paced culture with real growth opportunities

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: $140K–$180K (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
  • Long-Term Growth: Eligible to participate in Riot’s equity incentive programs and share in the success you help build.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: Incudes a generous company match.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options, including 100% company-paid plans.
  • Wellness & Lifestyle Perks: Enjoy free gym memberships, pet insurance, childcare discounts, and more to support your life both in and out of work.

Riot is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
