540 is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer (GCP) to lead the migration of mission-critical applications into Google Cloud in support of an Army program. This role will play a key part in advancing cloud adoption within cArmy by migrating a full-stack, AI-enabled application into a modern, cloud-native environment.
You’ll operate as a hands-on technical lead and individual contributor, working across engineering teams, Army stakeholders, and Google partners to design and execute cloud migration strategies. This is a high-impact role with strong potential to evolve into a team leadership position as additional applications are brought into the cloud.

Location: Remote within the continental United States
Citizenship & Clearance Requirement: per client requirements, candidates must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoW Secret clearance
Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field (preferred)

HOW YOU’LL DRIVE IMPACT

  • Lead the migration of a full-stack, AI-enabled application into Google Cloud Platform (GCP) within a cArmy environment
  • Operate as the primary cloud SME, driving architecture, design, and implementation decisions
  • Design and implement scalable, secure, cloud-native solutions leveraging GCP services
  • Collaborate with Army stakeholders, Google partners, and internal teams to align technical solutions with mission needs
  • Interface across multiple teams to coordinate migration efforts and ensure successful delivery
  • Establish best practices for cloud architecture, security, and deployment in a regulated environment
  • Support and improve CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment workflows
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across infrastructure, application, and data layers
  • Lay the foundation for future migrations and help shape a repeatable cloud adoption strategy
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship as the team grows

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years of experience in a DevSecOps, Cloud or related engineer role
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) (architecture, services, deployment)
  • Experience leading or executing application migrations to cloud environments
  • Ability to operate independently and take ownership of complex technical efforts (“stand-alone” capability)
  • Experience working across multiple teams and stakeholders in a collaborative environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working in U.S. Army environments
  • CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Google Cloud certification (e.g., Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud Engineer, or similar)

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience working within cArmy (Army Cloud) environments
  • Experience migrating full-stack applications, including AI/ML-enabled systems
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience designing cloud solutions in regulated or high-security environments
  • Prior experience leading or building engineering teams
  • Experience working directly with cloud providers (e.g., Google) in a delivery capacity
  • Experience collaborating with security teams
  • Familiarity implementing security testing, mitigation, remediation strategies
