Senior Business Development Director – AEP, North America Utility Sales

We are seeking a Business Development Executive with deep regulated Utility experience to represent Tendril's leading analytical solutions and customer engagement software to AEP. Your primary responsibility will be to leverage your knowledge and relationships to expand Tendril’s already significant business with AEP by closing large software sales with AEP corporate and the seven AEP operating companies.  You will be following the blueprint and growth strategy Tendril proved out with another top 5 Investor Owned Utility. 

What you’ll do

As part of Tendril’s dynamic Sales Team, there is a clear expectation for the Business Development Executive to demonstrate client and industry expertise, which can be leveraged from day one to quickly build a strong business pipeline and to meet sales targets.

You will work closely with the CEO and SVP of Sales and Marketing who have relationships with senior level AEP executives.  You’ll need to position Tendril as a critical technology solutions partner as AEP transforms to a customer centric utility.  To do so, you will need to deepen Tendril’s relationships across AEP’s seven operating companies and corporate officers. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a robust and well-qualified sales pipeline within AEP
  • Work with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Operations team members to structure and propose detailed multi-year business relationships
  • Carry challenging sales quotas and meet/exceed annual goals for innovative software and analytical solution offerings that are still new to the market
  • Identify, reach and influence key decision makers and all influencers and stakeholders within targeted utility prospects
  • Work closely with senior executives to set strategies and execute on tactics for closing business with prospective clients

What You Bring to Tendril

  • A clear track record of business development leading to contracts in excess of $10M
  • 5-10 years working for a regulated utility or consulting/selling to regulated utilities
  • Deep knowledge of the regulated utility business model including knowledge of Customer Service and Demand Side Management for the residential home market
  • A passion for working with clients, understanding their personalities and business needs, and delivering progressive, solutions-centric programs to meet these needs
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, informal environment where constant change is the norm and the bar for delivering results is set high
  • Ability to Travel 30-40% of the time to meet with clients to build strong, long lasting relationships
  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
