Department overview:

IHS Markit Global IT provide services across a broad range of technical disciplines and leverages investment in world class technologies in support of IHS Markit’s products and clients. Operating within the Build function of the ‘plan, build, deliver run model, Solutions Architecture is responsible for defining, planning and designing infrastructure solutions which are then delivered through the IT Delivery function.

Through our experience we support all IHS Markit’s products on a global basis offering a breadth of “right sized” IT solutions in terms of availability, speed, capacity, security, efficiency, scalability and manageability.

Position summary

We are responsible for reviewing, approving and delivering the new requirements as they come in from the different product groups and development teams. Our goal is to design and build infrastructure solutions that are robust and “fit for purpose”, using the standard global models.  Where the models of the day don’t provide the necessary capabilities, our role is to identify and quantify the need and to pursue potential solutions with the IT Product Owners and engineering teams.

The position of an Infrastructure Solutions Architect focuses upon providing technical guidance and advice, including leadership on our technical approach and product selection. This is an “Individual Contributor” role and does not involve any line management. However, you will manage initiatives allocated to you and work with internal engineering teams and third party suppliers if appropriate and draw out the requirements and develop an appropriate architecture. In most cases, you will hand over to a Delivery Manager you will move to a supporting role during the delivery aspect of the project lifecycle; for smaller initiatives, you may be required to oversee the implementation. It is also expected that Solution Architects will drive reviews of global standards and foster a culture where standards are defined and agreed globally where necessary.

The firm are undertaking a transformative programme of work where all systems and products are being rebuilt out of our multiple geographically spread on-premises data centres onto VMC on AWS. This five-year program will oversee multiple concurrent streams of migrations of products servicing financial markets, automotive, energy & Industrials across the EU and the US.

Typically, you will have 15+ years of technology experience and 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure Architecture, although there is some flexibility depending on the candidate’s career history.
