Precision Oncology Sales Lead


POSITION SUMMARY:

To pursue our shared mission and help Invitae grow, we are looking for a Precision Oncology Sales Lead to drive awareness and adoption of Invitae’s somatic assays, along with other oncology products and services available at Invitae.

The primary responsibility of the Precision Oncology Sales Lead is to represent Invitae by serving as an expert both internally and externally on our Somatic Products, providing education and support to develop relationships with external client groups and internal teams.  This role will build a team of somatic oncology sales representatives.

The Precision Oncology Sales Lead is a field-based position and will be expected to travel Nationally to educate medical professionals and provide support to Invitae’s sales team.  


What you'll bring:

Leadership

  • Provide leadership to the somatic sales organization’s leadership team, while fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, high-performance, and ethical behavior.
  • Drive a performance based culture, establishing and prioritizing critical performance measures for all sales jobs. 
  • Drive a collaborative sales environment between the precision oncology sales team and other oncology sales teams
  • Communicate clear expectations and empower leaders and individual contributors to strive for excellence with a high degree of accountability. 
  • Partner with the Sales Directors to cultivate and develop strong, professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead teams through ambiguity, persisting through barriers and identifying solutions.
  • Leads sales organization change initiatives by continuously assessing the need for organizational change, championing change initiatives, and removing obstacles impeding constructive organizational change. 
  • Work with Medical Affairs to help manage clinical trials and collaborations within our Somatic portfolio;
  • Build relationships with thought leaders and key decision makers within the somatic oncology space;
  • Function as a clinical and educational resource for internal teams (sales, marketing, training, medical affairs, lab, product development, client services);

Strategy

  • Aligns the Somatic Sales Team’s objectives with firm business strategy through active participation in corporate strategic planning, sales strategy development, forecasting, and sales resource planning.
  • Support effective somatic sales organization design, including sales job roles, sales channel design, and sales resource deployment.
  • Evaluate existing sales activities to continuously improve processes, metrics, and goals that define success, measure performance, and drive successful sales behavior. 
  • Inform the organization about industry changes and developments, anticipating potential negative and positive trends on the business and adapting strategies accordingly.
  • Educate and communicate customer needs to internal teams and work with stakeholders to implement strategies, initiatives and programs.
  • Have an understanding of new market segments and the development of appropriate solutions/strategies for the execution of go to market plans.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to align Commercial sales goals to other organizational efforts in Product, Operations, People & Culture, and other COEs.

Product Knowledge & Training

  • Be a subject matter expert on all of Invitae’s somatic product offerings.
  • Serve as a conduit to the operations, product, and marketing teams for customer and prospect feedback to ensure continuous, rapid improvement of the Invitae’s products and offerings.
  • Ensure that new product launches have key sales stakeholder visibility and provide feedback/support related to commercial readiness; engage sales leaders in launch.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to new product releases, enhancements and updates. 
  • Exceptional strategic and consultative sales acumen with an in-depth understanding of the audience to successfully navigate and sell in a complex sales environment.

Success Criteria

  • Meets assigned targets for profitable sales volume, market share and other key financial performance objectives. 
  • Ensure teams are supported in their performance goals. 
  • Participate in achieving strategic objectives critical to the success of the commercial team and other cross-functional areas.


What you bring:

  • 10+ years of healthcare sales with expertise in the somatic oncology space
  • 5+ years’ experience leading high performing teams.
  • Deep knowledge of Somatic oncology testing space
  • Proven track record of consistently exceeding financial and/or other quantitative targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify growth opportunities in highly competitive markets. 
  • Advanced presentation and negotiation skills.
