We’re Verblio: a unique content creation startup based in Denver, CO. We live at the intersection of two huge trends - the future of marketing and the future of work.

In the future of marketing, content lays at the foundation of modern marketing. But it’s really hard to create quality content consistently, and particularly at scale. It requires time, resources, and talent, and many companies simply can’t reasonably or cost-effectively staff in-house. That’s where we come in.

By combining a marketplace business model with the flexibility and deep vertical expertise of SaaS, Verblio enables writers to create 70,000+ pieces of unique content per year for our customers. With a network of over 3,000 professional writers, Verblio provides the platform for modern digital agencies, businesses, enterprises, and publishers to create unique content creation solutions.

To do all of this, we’ve created a high-performing SaaS startup led by a 15-year marketplace industry veteran and staffed by a team of energetic, eclectic startup junkies, writing enthusiasts, and random liberal arts degree collectors.

We’ve been on a full-tilt growth spurt for several years and have grandiose plans for world domination in the near future...and that’s where you come in!  We are looking for the right Director of Sales/Business Development to manage and grow our client base and to add jet fuel to this rocket. Ready?

About the role:

This is an exciting role for an entrepreneurial leader who’s up for the big challenge and opportunity of helping our rapidly-growing startup become a sales powerhouse. No one here wears just one hat.

The first key role is mostly business development with a healthy dose of sales and a splash of product marketing.  The role is to identify, target and build out the next target verticals for Verblio, while leveraging the variety of content use cases that one can create when powered by thousands of top writers, with subject matter expertise across 40 verticals, and technology platform to support them. We can do a lot of amazing things with this combination. You’ll lead us on figuring out which ones are the right opportunities.  In this part of the role, you will be directly performing outbound outreach as well.

Part two of the role is to lead our small but passionate inbound sales team. This is our sweet spot already, but we’re looking for a leader to make the team even more efficient and effective, and expand the team when ready.

If you’re passionate about 1) business development in new verticals and products, 2) selling, 3) growing high-performing teams, 4) startup high-speed adventures and 5) building and using data and systems to make everything run, this is the role for you.

This full-time, exempt position will be responsible for:

  • Business Development. We have a strong client base with a great variety of verticals and different uses of our product. You’ll lead our efforts to identify which of those verticals we should target directly, and what packages and sales terms would be most compelling for that audience.
  • Running and growing the Verblio inbound sales team. We currently have 1.5 sales reps and outsourced chat support and want to grow quickly. You’ll play a key role in hiring, training, and managing team members.
  • Designing, implementing, and continuously improving processes, data, and technology that support high-growth, high-volume sales.
  • Working with the marketing team to create messaging and collateral across our customer types.
  • Being both a player and a coach. We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable giving product demos and selling to the C-suite, but is equally passionate about mentoring, coaching, and managing a high-energy sales team.
  • Partnering with our operations team to build an account management function at Verblio that provides support for 1,000+ clients and creates beneficial cross-selling opportunities.
  • Serving as the executive sponsor to top clients—running QBRs, check-ins, and interfacing with our ops team to ensure client success.
  • Developing and executing strategies for both outbound sales and entering new verticals.
  • Improving the inbound sales funnel by optimizing the path from lead to customer.
  • Running conference logistics / trade show operations.

What you will need to be successful in this role:

  • 5-10 years of sales and sales management experience.
  • Experience building a large book of business through direct outbound sales outreach.
  • Experience managing inside sales/cold outreach/SDR teams.
  • Ability to think entrepreneurially about which verticals could be expansion verticals for a core product and different product variations that fit those markets.
  • A strong foundation in content marketing/SEO/inbound marketing.
  • Great interpersonal and networking skills and a love of building relationships with clients.
  • Experience with sales tracking and management systems, particularly across a multi-member sales team.
  • A data-driven mentality, and the interest to build reporting, tracking, and systems that create excellence and accountability in sales.
  • Strong writing and messaging skills; you’ll be creating sales decks, standardizing talking points, forming responses to objections, etc.
  • A desire to work closely and collaboratively with our marketing team, to align around revenue goals.
  • Experience selling to digital agencies or publishers preferred.
  • A high degree of emotional intelligence.
  • Experience operating in a small company.
  • Ability to travel (up to 10%).

What makes Verblio a great place to work?

  • We work hard, have fun, learn a lot, and are proud of our transparent, collaborative culture.
  • We believe in doing good, and that creating great opportunities for home-based writers is just as important as helping our clients find their next customer.
  • This year we made the Inc 5000 list and won our fifth Mercury 100 award as one of the fastest-growing companies in the Boulder Valley.
  • We offer competitive salaries, equity, health, dental & vision insurance, and a generous vacation policy.
