Unself is on a mission to inspire and connect volunteers.

We are an online platform that tracks and reports volunteer experiences, and lets volunteers share their social good. Volunteers and organizations can measure their impact over time, ultimately generating value for communities and nonprofits.

We are striving to become a holistic technology platform that connects volunteers and nonprofits, helps organizations maximize the social impact of their people, and changes the way that individuals engage with their favorite causes.

Overview

As a Technical Project Manager at Unself, you break down complex problems into actionable steps for Design and Development, helping our team to prioritize and usher projects through the development cycle. You understand how the value of an effort, however small, aligns with Unself's vision to inspire and connect volunteers.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

As someone who deeply values collaboration, you're comfortable working with designers and developers to generate and phase requirements, manage multiple project schedules, identify risks and communicate them to the
right people.

You lead by example with diligent, proactive communication to ensure that designers and developers have a shared understanding of the value being created, how it's implemented, and when it's shipped to users.

You're equally at home explaining technical analyses and recommendations to designers as you are discussing the design and user experience trade-offs with developers.

Cross-Team Coordination

One of your strengths is bringing a team together around a shared goal – and ensuring that they reach it. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating phased releases for multiple projects with design and
dev leaders.

During that process, you'll make sure all development work streams are iterative, aligned to deliver value at the right time and impervious
to scope creep.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Work independently or pair with designers and devs on generating requirements and translating them into dev stories
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog of stories and keep an eye on the icebox
  • Define acceptance criteria and lead both story and all-app testing
  • Highlight and plan for UX and technical dependencies across projects
  • Manage a continuous effort to find, report, and fix bugs and execute small improvements
  • Reveal edge cases that need considerations from designers and developers
  • Comfortable brainstorming with designers on meeting user needs in a given feature set – from whiteboard sketches to leaving comments or questions in a detailed design file (we use Figma) or requirements document (we use Notion)

Your Background

  • You have 2+ years experience with design, development or project management
  • You model excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to adapt your communication style for the audience
  • You're comfortable with the ambiguity of an entrepreneurial environment
  • You don't wait for someone to tell you what to do next
  • You're familiar with project management software (we use Pivotal Tracker)
  • You're always looking for better tools to help the team collaborate and communicate
  • You don't take things personally and welcome honest, direct peer feedback
  • You remain objective when evaluating the success of a given team process or delivered stories
  • You self-identify as a strong team facilitator
