Job Summary

The Operations Product Manager is the instrumental Operations role on product development Core Teams.  NetApp Core Teams are the project organization comprised of team members representing key functional aspects of the project’s complete business, matrixed from the functions they represent, and collectively responsible for the business success of the project.  Team members bear the unique responsibility of providing the expertise and leadership of their represented functions, while optimizing the success of each new product development effort.  Under direction of the team leader, they jointly plan the project, execute work plans, solve problems, and implement contingency approaches when needed.

OPM’s have formidable responsibilities in decision-making, planning, and execution throughout the product development process.  As the operations representative to new product development projects, they are responsible for evaluating and resolving the operations feasibility and market readiness of new products.  OPM’s lead the operations extended teams, managing project schedules and resource requirements, overseeing workstreams, and achieve results against milestones.

Within the operations functional organization, OPM’s from Level 3-5 has escalating responsibility to drive thought leadership, strategy development, and strategy communication/execution.

Job Requirements

OPM responsibilities are organized into the major operations and supply chain responsibilities:

Strategize:

  • Participate in developing new operations strategies based on technology shifts and macro-economic climate changes
  • Advocate and implement operations strategies in NPI projects

Plan:

  • Fully engage in Integrated Project Planning and business/ROI planning (Core Team level, shared responsibility)
  • Facilitate Design for Cost practices
  • Conduct operations planning
  • Conduct materials planning
  • Develop order management processes
  • Plan New Product Introduction activities

Source:

  • Oversee and drive RFP process, NPI quote evaluation, supplier selection and materials costing
  • Roll-up product costing, and drive cross-functional costing trade-offs (Core Team level, shared responsibility)
  • Direct procurement and ensure material availability for prototype, pilot, and production builds
  • Manage activities for ensuring supplier quality
  • Direct materials quality assurance and quality control

Make:

  • Manage manufacturing engineering and drive DfM practices
  • Develop fixture and assembly process
  • Conduct manufacturing verification testing
  • Manage bill of material releases
  • Conduct assembly and manufacturing testing
  • Oversee manufacturing quality and reliability practices
  • Lead manufacturing ramp
  • Transition products to End of Life

Deliver:

  • Manage end-to-end supply chain
  • Oversee overall distribution and logistics
  • Report product performance through cost, quality, forecast attainment, and customer feedback data

Return:

  • Launch return authorization process
  • Execute defect analysis process
  • Set up refurbishment and re-distribution

Education

  • BA/BS degree in Supply Chain management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research; MBA preferred not required
  • APICS certifications in CSCP or CPIM

Experience:

  • 5-10 years in Operations Management or Supply Chain Management with significant experience on cross-functional NPI teams
  • Thorough knowledge of outsourced high-tech manufacturing
  • Software Release management experience a plus

Technical and Tool Skills

  • Scheduling and project management using Microsoft Project and other tools
  • Presentation skills with Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Spreadsheet creation and manipulation skills with Microsoft Excel
  • Master Requirements Planning systems experience
  • Document Control systems experience

Other Qualifications

  • Solid communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify, describe, and resolve and/or escalate issues to closure
  • Highly organized
  • Good judgment between autonomy versus escalation
  • Ability to contribute and lead in a project team environment, optimizing functional and project goals
  • Solid product costing and financial/ROI analysis skills
  • Planning, scheduling, and milestone-oriented
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong negotiation skills and business acumen
