The Project Management Office (PMO) Director ensures all of Company’s major projects are planned, approved, and implemented to meet Company’s Risk Review requirements from the start. This includes delivery of pre-engineered, engineered and special purpose products and management of large commercial contracts.
The PMO Director holds both leadership and management roles in a PMO. It is a highly visible role, responsible for the overall project management and governance function by providing leadership, coordination, and management of the PMO processes and functions. This position is responsible for various methods and best practices, improving the overall project portfolio management (PPM) maturity across the organization, and tracking and reporting the conformance to plans and expectations of all initiatives. As an arm of the overall governance function the Director of PMO is responsible for supporting and enabling the organization's projects, programs and structured work efforts as well as, ensuring that the work of the PMO adds value, is relevant to and aligns the strategy of the organization, and meets the goals set for the enterprise by executive management.
The PMO Director further ensures that the proper mix of technical support, procurement resources, guidelines, procedures, consultants, and software are available to support multi-discipline project teams for projects in the development, planning, or implementation stage. This role will ensure sustained project management across engineered Operations, drive continuous improvement and leverage Project Management best practices.
The person should be able to act with the highest professionalism, exercise independent judgment and decision-making, while weighing the interests of multiple stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Define and maintain standards for the project management team using Project Management Institute (PMI) guidelines, Quality Standards and Company requirements to implement projects in a manner that introduces economies of repetition, and meets financial expectations established at project start
Manage the prioritization of projects proposed by each of the business units in order to establish project management staffing levels, training, tools, and software across all of Zayo, allowing the project teams to achieve Zayo’s objectives with respect to given projects
Provide leadership to ensure proper investments in tools, processes and people to govern Project Portfolio, Risk Reviews, Document Controls and Project Management training
Leads the identification, development, implementation, and monitoring of project and portfolio KPIs, metrics, leading indicators, project trending, executive presentations, and portfolio status reports
Report to Executive Management on all projects at regular intervals to inform management on issues and seek their counsel as required
Provide leadership to ensure assigned staff successfully achieves Company goals and objectives.
Defines, manages and directs the needed end-to-end PMO work effort, which includes leveraging best practices and techniques in identifying, quantifying and tracking the realization of expected benefits defined in business cases
Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring to PMO staff and project managers
Builds and maintains relationships with senior leadership and key PMO stakeholders, and acts as a trusted advisor
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or master's degree in business or related field.
PMP, PPM, or other similar Program Management certification
10+ years of relevant project and program management experience, including 5+ years of experience directing staff
5+ years of building or transforming a PMO preferred
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate the PMO vision, and inspire and motivate PMO staff
Strategic mindset to evolve an organization focused on portfolio, program, and project management and continuous improvement
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and anticipate the needs of a changing landscape
Strong financial knowledge and/or training with a highly developed understanding of operations, project processes and tools
Base Salary Range $118,400- $157,900
