We want Alteryx to be recognized as much for our kick-ass ways of working as for our kick-ass products.

Our Lean-Agile Practice Group at Alteryx is a team of Agile Coaches and Lean Practitioners with the mission of leading motivated teams in Lean delivery of value through analytics and focused experimentation. Our team is responsible for process design, education, coaching, and measurement of our Lean-Agile practice. We serve over 25 teams in 3 locations.

The successful Agile Coach at Alteryx is an effective servant leader who teaches, guides, mentors and supports Scrum teams and individuals across our Product, Operations and Engineering organizations. As an Agile Coach, you understand where each team in your investment area is in their agile journey and offer the right approach to support their growth. The Agile Coach team fosters a culture of continuous improvement, both at the team and the organizational level by asking the right questions, providing good examples, analogies, mental models, and challenging people in their thinking. As such, you are a change agent facilitating organizational culture changes that are necessary for sustained agile success. The role requires strong interpersonal acumen, leadership, and mastery of agile principles in software development and deployment.

Success in this role, and in this large, complex and dynamic organization with inter-team dependencies, is dependent on your knowledge of agile, coaching experience, ability to collaborate with cross-functional leaders, and your executive presence. Coaches encourage a positive, open and dynamic culture, and help the company embrace Lean and Agile. The Agile Coach understands Alteryx’s organizational structure, has tolerance for ambiguity, and knows how to collaborate with Product and Engineering to help Alteryx realize its goals. You will leverage your background in other software development disciplines and other related fields to understand what works for our culture and business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coaching – You will help others solve problems through asking powerful questions, offering supportive practices, and fostering accountability. Equally important is your ability to draw from your own knowledge and experience to validate or challenge someone’s narrative and to help them find a narrative compatible with Agile principles and values. You will serve as a reflective observer, who notices the interactions and reactions of the group, and, without judgment, provides a perspective that they may not have noticed.
  • Facilitating – You will use your excellent facilitation skills in large & small events including clear, purposeful and positive start, and finishing by distributing action items and next-steps.
  • Education / Training – You will contribute to course development and/or teaching classes to Alteryx Engineering & Product Associates. This will include new hires to help them understand and be quick to come up to speed in our agile system, and Scrum Masters/Team Leads and other leadership to understand what makes the system successful and how they play a role in that success. You will also contribute to training more advanced topics at all levels of the organization to drive healthy behaviors and continuous learning.
  • Utilizing Metrics – We are a company that delivers industry-leading analytics software. As such, we are data driven in designing our “Ways of Working”. You will use metrics and observations that help us surface risks, successes and cross-team patterns of behavior, both at the team and organization level. Understanding how systemic factors influence metrics, how to get key metrics, and understand what trends and spikes in data mean is a key value-add for our team.
  • Relationship Building – You will build and maintain strong relationships and engender trust across the organization in support of our agile system.
  • Team Player - You will actively contribute to the cohesion and effectiveness of the Agile Team, including the ability to hold strong opinions, yet articulate and advocate for them in a consumable way during discussion helping the team drive to complete the work at hand.
  • Design, Implement, and Continuously Improve the Alteryx “Ways of Working” – You will offer an important perspective when working with the Organizational Design Specialist in Designing, Implementing and Improving the Alteryx “Ways of Working”. You will be expected to have a voice in whatever direction the company goes with its practice; therefore a solid understanding of Lean and Agile Principles is paramount.
  • ALM Administration – You will assist the Organizational Design Specialist with ALM Tool Administration which may include: assisting new hires to work within it, coaching teams to use it in accord with the Alteryx “Ways of Working”, offering feedback on the compatibility of the tool’s configuration with the company’s practice and fostering the integrity of the data while using that data to identify and address anti-patterns.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, information technology or other relevant discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 – 4 years of experience as an Agile Coach, plus 2-4 years of additional prior experience in other software development roles (Scrum Master, QA, Product, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience facilitating to both large and small groups, as well as experience coaching team members up to senior management.
  • Agile Coach Certification, certificate, experience preferred; i.e. ICAgile Certified Professional - Agile Coaching (ICP-AC), Scrum Alliance Advanced or Professional - ScrumMaster (A-CSM, CSP-SM), agile coaching certification, formal training or job experience.
  • Thorough understanding of the software development life cycle from conception to delivery.
  • Healthy sense of humor and desire to make work fun.
