Couchsurfing, an international travel startup headquartered in San Francisco, is looking for an experienced Product Manager.  This position is based out of Couchsurfing's Denver office.

About the Role

As a Senior Product Manager at Couchsurfing, you will be responsible for guiding product improvements and innovations in the front end web site and back end API that supports both web and mobile applications. We’re looking for someone who loves data, is deeply customer-curious, can iterate and test quickly, and has experience building engaging consumer software products to meet business objectives.

You will report to the Director of Product and Analytics, and interact daily with Design, Engineering, and Analytics, and at least bi-weekly with leadership team members.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize work on a 3-sprint time horizon (6 weeks) to achieve business outcomes and report performance against objectives regularly
    • Gather inputs from team members as required to effectively make tradeoffs between new development, iterative improvements, and eliminating technical debt
    • Own documentation of work including priorities, project briefs, and JIRA tickets, to ensure accuracy and clear communication across team
    • Escalate and get leadership buy in on priorities, trade-offs, and directional changes regularly
  • Coordinate team to build and iterate quickly towards results in agile development process, and perform key work as part of the process
    • Define and document business objectives and outcomes for design and engineering through development of project briefs, tickets, and acceptance criteria
    • Coordinate Engineering, Design, and QA to define requirements of designs and build work. Support the design process (technical and UX) by refining requirements as needed.
    • Help team to break down the designed work to small, releasable chunks, prioritizing highest value first
    • Understand complexity of work and anticipated impacts -  including Design, UX / release management, QA and Development before it is executed
    • Perform Ready to Accept assessments of development work product and provide guidance to development and testing processes
    • Communicate progress across teams and to leadership
    • Engage analytics to support defining priorities quantitatively, and to evaluate results of work completed
  • Own release planning
    • Understand and prepare for expected impacts, including coordination of engineering and analytics to support
    • Document and communicate planned release targets and any deviations from plan
    • Work with team on release follow ups required
    • Support QA and Engineering in release execution as needed

Requirements

  • 3-5 years relevant experience working as part of a software product team
  • Experience writing user stories, maintaining a backlog, and working with designers and engineers
  • Driven self-starter with an ability to work independently and pull in leadership as needed on decisions
  • Excellent skills gathering information, processing, synthesizing insights and communicating output
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Strong data and analytical skills. Experience with these tools is a plus: Google Analytics, Redshift SQL, Tableau, and Amplitude
  • Understanding of technical requirements of web app development. Experience coding is a plus
  • Affinity for understanding user needs in a B2C industry. Experience in product design is a plus
