Product Strategists lead a sharp and aggressive cross-functional team in developing web and/or mobile applications for Skookum’s clients. You must possess a unique blend of problem solving skills, business acumen, big-picture vision, and the drive to make visions reality.

A Product Strategist's primary focus is analyzing a problem from multiple angles to ensure the solution is viable for the business and end users. You will break down complex business problems into small digestible concepts and consult with clients to align stakeholders around common objectives.

We're looking for motivated self-starters to help push the bounds of what is possible for our clients and our company. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, you must be comfortable working with distributed teams, eager to play an active role in the local tech community, and help recruit a team of A-players like yourself.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Consult with Skookum’s clients to understand and convey strategic business objectives.
  • Evaluate end-users’ needs through interviews and observation/shadowing.
  • Translate business and user needs into user flows, feature maps, user stories, etc.
  • Work with project team to deliver software that meets business requirements and delights users.
  • Lead multiple projects from start to finish managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Educate clients on Skookum’s lean iterative software development lifecycle.

Composition of Role:

The Product Strategist role at Skookum is unlike traditional product management positions and deliberately tailored to the needs of our client services organization. The core functions of the role are a combination of client consulting, product management, and project coordination. Below is a description of each function:

  1. Client Consultant - Primary point of the contact to C level clients. Must communicate vision, progress, and present business cases around the value of pursuing your recommendations.
  2. Product Manager - Leads internal product team comprised of Quality Analysts, Product Designers, Developers, and other Product Strategists. Must be able to break down complex problems into digestible solutions and communicate a vision to the team for execution.
  3. Project Coordinator - Coordinate efforts to reach common goals for the product team and client. Must create product roadmaps, project plans, coordinate development efforts, communicate status, and instill a sense of progress.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of product management, business analysis, or similar experience. 
  • Understands and has knowledge in user interface best practices.
  • Experience in software development methodologies. (Ex: Agile/Scrum)
  • Experience writing functional requirements/user stories.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and solve complex business problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen and executive voice. 
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and negotiate.
  • Quick in learning and adapting to new projects with minimal supervision.
