We are seeking a high-performing, strategic-thinking, creative, and experienced Product Manager to join the Oil Markets, Midstream, Downstream and Chemicals (OMDC) group – a major portion of the Energy & Natural Resources (ENR) business line of IHS Markit.

OMDC brings together unrivalled expertise in oil markets, refined products, and chemicals to provide information and insight products that critically inform the strategic investment and operational decisions made by both industry and the financial sector. Our offerings include crucial price benchmarks, comprehensive asset databases, short and long-term market forecasts, analysis of industry dynamics and company strategies, and tools to enable comparison and benchmarking of operational efficiency and production.

The role:

Take lead product management responsibility for the Technology and Analytics product group – a portfolio of offerings that are used by our clients to make critical capital project planning and technical operations decisions for refineries and chemical plants. Complex modelling built on chemical and petroleum engineering content is provided to customers via interactive tools with data visualization. With these products, clients are able determine which processes are technically superior, which technologies are the most economically competitive, and assess the cost and margin positions of the world’s refinery and chemical assets.

Partner with Research & Analysis leadership to drive the short and long-term commercial success of the Technology and Analytics portfolio - one with rapid growth and opportunity for substantial product evolution in the near term. The position reports to the head of product management for OMDC and will also collaborate with an experienced product management team to contribute to larger, cross-cutting OMDC and ENR strategic goals and initiatives.

Key elements of the role:

  • Maintain a deep understanding of OMDC industry trends, needs of prospective and current customers, and how customers use IHSM and competitor products in their workflows

  • Translate market knowledge and client interactions into identified user personas and definitions of product positioning and value propositions for different user segments

  • Serve as a key, continuing conduit for voice-of-the-market/client base input into existing and new product development decisions

  • Develop clear and compelling roadmaps for existing product groups - considering commercial performance, evolving client needs, and competitive product offerings

  • Identify and define new product concepts, and evaluate their commercial potential, examining client value, strategic fit, pricing potential, and competitive environment

  • Examine client usage data and other engagement metrics, and work with Research and Customer Care to develop strategies for increasing client value-realization and retention rates

  • Support Marketing in the development of marketing material and campaigns, including work with Research to drive broad marketplace awareness via dissemination of thought leadership

  • Assist Sales in their development of new business account plans by providing guidance on whitespace companies and user personas for specific product offerings

  • Manage implementation/maintenance of joint venture/partnership relationships with 3rd parties

What we are looking for:

Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • 5+ years of product management experience with applied software, B2B data/information, and/or industry analysis, products – software experience is particularly valued for this role

  • Past success in both developing and launching new offerings and in finding new avenues for growth for mature products

  • Oil & gas, chemical, or related industry knowledge – and/or demonstrated ability to quickly develop such domain understanding to be effective in a product management role – Chemical/Chemical Engineering education/experience is highly desirable

  • Experience in and enthusiasm for engaging with clients to understand customer industry workflows, identify unmet needs, and develop creative solutions to address them

Foundational qualities we seek in all candidates:

  • A proven ability to manage and make progress on multiple initiatives running in parallel, prioritizing and leveraging strong organizational and project management skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an ability to distil and explain complicated concepts in clear and concise terms

  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills, with the ability to construct and evaluate different business model approaches to maximize ROI

  • Enjoyment in being a team player who brings a sense of positive energy and an ability to influence, inspire, and motivate critical cross-functional partners across the organization

Additional skills and experience that would be highly valued:

  • APIs – experience querying/using, developing, and/or managing functional evolution

  • Data Lakes – experience with application to complex analytical problems

  • Evaluating/screening partnership and acquisition opportunities to drive product strategy
