Hardware Engineering Product Manager

As our team's Hardware Product Manager, you will define and architect new hardware products from concept to mass production. You enjoy not only managing schedules, vendors, and deliverables but also rolling up your sleeves to dive into both engineering and manufacturing. You will uncover and understand customer needs, translate them into requirements, and ensure implementation plans match expectations. As the hardware expert on our team, you will be expected to assess and address technical risks, coordinate tests, and define success criteria for testing and product acceptance. We are specifically looking for competence in hardware product management and Electrical Engineering. More importantly, we are looking for a collaborative and proactive teammate who can excel in a startup environment. 

 

About Barn Owl

At Barn Owl, we’re breaking down the infrastructure limitations of existing cameras systems, enabling our customers to maximize productivity, safety, and security. We develop and deliver a vertically integrated surveillance platform, including 4G/5G-connected cameras, cellular data, surveillance software, and AI-powered analytics for automated alerting and reporting.


As our Hardware Engineering Product Manager, you will drive the development of new hardware products in collaboration with our team and partners. Currently, we are launching the development of an edge-compute camera with cellular and satellite connectivity. You will drive all aspects of the hardware product, ensuring the camera meets customer requirements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer needs into requirements and product specifications.
  • Create and track engineering development schedules and milestones through various new product gates.
  • Work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to coordinate design releases, manage vendor deliverables, and ensure proper validation testing.
  • Plan and execute on development builds, including factory line bring up, test plans, manufacturing SOPs, allocations, yield reporting, and failure analysis.
  • Provide regular project updates and communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with product and operations team to build out launch plans.
  • Manage the sustained production of products and lead post-launch failure analysis.


Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related technical degree, strong technical knowledge of electrical design and validation.
  • Mechanical and assembly experience a major plus.
  • Other areas of experience that will benefit the role: Optical and IR sensors, RF, and telecommunications.
  • 2-4 years of experience in developing and manufacturing new electronics products, must have completed at least one full hardware development cycle through product launch.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with supply chains, both domestic and international.
  • Ability to travel internationally.
  • Flexible and adaptive in a fast-paced startup environment.
