Role Purpose

The Associate Merchandiser will focus on managing the categories of ownership by supporting and executing strategic plans and managing the product life cycle for the categories of ownership in partnership with the Merchandise Manager.

This position will partner cross-functionally with design, production, planning, marketing, and site merchandising to create and bring to market strong product assortments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full product life cycle from idea to end of life including trend research, assortment planning, sku maintenance, design direction, inventory, order management, site merchandising, and marketing

  • Develop assortment strategy aligned with achieving category financial goals​ and strategic objectives​ including mix of private label and 3rd party goods

  • Own quarterly hindsighting for category. Utilize data to identify assortment opportunities, rationalize SKUs, and provide trend analysis for future assortment

  • Drive development of pre-season line plans and product briefs to pass to design and product development each season, maintain visual line plans for season and core assortments

  • Partner with Planning team on forecasting and inventory management

  • Build strong relationships with product suppliers​ and effectively communicate with these partners on assortment plans, pricing, and order delivery

  • Manage monthly order process by building new collection assortment plans and manufacturing tools and working with Purchasing Coordinator on executing buys

  • Own assortment specific go-to-market strategy preparation for owned category, including launch document content creation, key item identification, key selling points, and marketing product recommendations

  • Manage relationship with site merchandising to ensure all products are launched accurately and on time

  • Provide support with category data analytics & conduct scenario and ad hoc analysis focused on identifying business risks and opportunities. Apply key learnings to assortment and buying strategies​

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Buying, Merchandising, Business or a related field
• 3-4 years experience in Buying, Merchandising, Product Line Management, or Category Management
• Proven analytical skills and enthusiasm for data-driven decision making, strong understanding of manipulating data and tool building in Microsoft Excel (e.g. vlookups, pivot tables, index match, etc.)
• Strong understanding of financial measurements and retail math (sales, gross margin, measures of inventory productivity) and how to impact them
• Proven track record in effectively collaborating cross functionally (without direct reporting authority)
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, timelines, and deliverables with strong organization skills and attention to detail

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong sense of urgency with sensitivity to time pressures and multiple deadlines
• Able to work successfully with teams, handling multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines under pressure
• Demonstrate innovative ways to use technology to improve day to day responsibilities
