The Role
SimplePractice is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead our team in executing all payroll and payroll related compliance activities across the Company’s various states and domestic jurisdictions. In this “hands-on” position, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams across HR, Accounting, and Finance across all levels within the organization. The Payroll Manager will report into the Controller and will be a key member of the finance organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead payroll operations to provide accurate and efficient payroll services to all employees
- Oversee full payroll processing cycle including the preparation and processing of bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls
- Manage the relationship of external payroll service providers and monitor the effectiveness of the processing services provided by the vendor
- Responsible for tracking and driving state and local registration requirements for withholding and UI related compliance
- Audit various payroll reports for accuracy
- Keep abreast of federal, state, and local legal, benefit and tax requirements by reviewing existing and new legislation
- Facilitate processing of year-end W2s and other required forms to employees
- Responsible for driving changes within payroll process and supporting systems to appropriately facilitate new types of compensation or changes within the business
- Perform research and analysis of payroll related tax issues as they arise.
- Maintain and update documentation of payroll process and procedures
- Responsible for responding to and managing payroll related audits from various federal, state and local jurisdictions
- Operate with a mindset of continuous performance improvement to streamline and automate as opportunities arise
- Lead, recommend, and participate in department projects to continually review and improve current processes
- Additional tasks and payroll-related responsibilities to keep pace with growing global organizational needs
- Partner with Human Resources to drive improvements within the HRIS system
- Own payroll testing for new pay components and new tax deductions
- Partner with Benefits Team on new PFL deductions for individual states
- Own creating and testing new payroll deductions, as needed
- Troubleshoot payroll “errors”/questions in Workday
Desired Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or related field preferred, but not required. Will certainly consider equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of payroll experience. Prior Payroll Manager experience preferred.
- Knowledge of multi-state payroll practices with high emphasis on CA payroll laws
- Experience with benefit tax treatments
- Advanced knowledge of Workday is highly desired
- Other technical skills include a strong proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred)
- Motivated self started with the ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross functionally across multiple different departments
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is highly desired
Base Compensation Range
$90,000 - $120,000 annually
Base salary is one component of total compensation. Employees may also be eligible for an annual bonus or commission. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.
The above represents the expected base compensation range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we’ll consider many factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
