Position summary:

The QC Laboratory Manager directs and coordinates the daily activities of the laboratory personnel (NGS Laboratory Technologists) to ensure efficient operation. May act as a SME to provide technical help. Is responsible for inventory management to ensure regulatory compliance during QC testing, schedules personnel for testing, and monitors testing timeframes to meet deadlines. Monitors supply inventory and equipment maintenance, ensuring all instrumentation receives repairs as needed, calibrations and preventative maintenance and schedules for these events as needed. Monitors the training program and works closely with the Training Manager to improve where needed. Evaluates current laboratory processes and implements improvements. Ensures compliance with the QMS and monitors review of assigned training for all QC laboratory personnel. Works collaboratively with other departments to meed business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of laboratory testing personnel to include payroll, daily schedules and new hire onboarding needs.
  • Monitors/schedules instrument/equipment maintenance and ensures all are functioning properly. Collaborate with the Facilities department to fulfill requirements.
  • Leads all aspects of inventory scheduling to assign testing to personnel in the most efficient manner to meet business needs.
  • Ensures all laboratory documentation is complete (i.e. maintenance logs).
  • Complies with good laboratory practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement by making recommendations or facilitating the implementation of process improvements as directed by leadership.
  • Works with the Training Manager to identify training needs and assures that each individual performing tests has been properly trained prior to carrying out QC procedures/testing.
  • Monitors reagent and consumable consumption and purchasing.
  • Implements quality standards and ensures adherence of staff to the quality management and improvement program.
  • Review, understand, and comply with Invitae HIPAA Security policies and procedures
  • Is responsible for laboratory safety and ensures that the laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Looks for trends in out of specifications and assures all events are completed in order to release materials.
  • Cultivate morale and collaboration.
  • Participates in quality control testing as necessary to ensure delivery to product and project timelines as defined by the business.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Life Science
  • 3+ years of experience in management required
  • Knowledge of good clinical laboratory practices
  • Knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), experience preferred
  • Experience with molecular genetics bench work or similar laboratory work
  • Experience with laboratory and safety equipment as it relates to client testing and low volume-liquid handling techniques
  • Laboratory data entry (LIMS) and data processing (Excel, Unix/Linux Command Line Interface) experience
  • Experience with DNA extraction processes, library preparation, PCR, real-time qPCR and genetic sequencing preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Other requirements:

  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Must be available for odd hours (second/third shift) and occasional Saturdays

In Colorado, our competitive compensation package includes a base salary starting from $134,000. In determining the final salary offered we will evaluate a specific candidate geographic location, education, skills and experience.
