The Role

FoodMaven operates a USDA protein processing facility that processes primals providing different varieties of custom cut meats to the food service market. Our preferred candidate for the Processing Facility Manager role will be an individual with management experience with full profit and loss responsibility in meat production, HACCP-certified, entrepreneurially minded, extremely organized, self-motivated, a natural problem solver, reliable, who can successfully operate a fast-paced, profitable facility. We are looking for someone with the right combination of experience and leadership skills to advance this newly acquired facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an overall production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; setting and accomplishing work goals; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on production reports.
  • Assume responsibility for the efficient, timely, and accurate completion of operational functions through analyzing production specifications and plant capacity to determine manufacturing processes and labor requirements.
  • Collaborate with other operations managers to ensure material availability, consumer expectations, finished goods quality, and on time delivery through optimal resource allocation.
  • Review production and operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to prevent operational delays while adhering to the budget.
  • Ensure after hours response in the event of plant outage and emergencies.
  • Operate and maintain hand or power tools, mixers, grinders, band saws, fork lift, sausage stuffers, patty machines, injectors, brickers, wrapping machines, portion control, luncheon meats, cured meats and other types of meat products.
  • Develop annual budget for the facility and execute to budget to achieve profit goals.
  • Coordinate facility functions to achieve target performance for cost of goods sold, by controlling costs associated with ingredients, labor, and overheads.
  • Organize daily, weekly and monthly meetings or reports at all levels of the organization to communicate plant performance and encourage open dialogue.
  • Plan and schedule workflow for each shift and operation while providing clear direction & expectations to supervisors.
  • Hold the appropriate team members accountable for assigned loss control responsibilities.
  • Maintain relationships with product suppliers, equipment suppliers, and packaging suppliers.
  • Have direct ownership of the safety of all FoodMaven employees while product is being produced within the facility.
  • Attend and contribute positively to daily and weekly meetings.
  • Sources, evaluates, negotiates and orders product, packaging, and equipment parts.
  • Conduct annual reviews for performance and cost of facility team, 3rd party suppliers and service providers.
  • Lead a culture of change, where everyone in the facility understands the needs and expectations of FoodMaven customers, vision, mission and work toward 100% fulfillment of those expectations through transparency and product quality, meeting all specifications and order fulfillment accuracy on a daily basis.
  • Build the best leadership and facility team possible through effective recruitment and people development. This should be achieved through direct involvement in the hiring process, clearly setting out expectations, providing positive feedback and constructive criticism to help build confidence and to develop skills. This may be accomplished through coaching, accountability, as well as a formal review process.
  • Maintain effective verbal and written communication with a diverse workforce.
  • Instill sense of urgency, safety, teamwork, personal learning and professional development for all workers.
  • Ensure accurate and complete reporting of required documentation and required logs.
  • Communicate with maintenance to schedule machine downtime for teardowns and upgrades.
  • Complete regular maintenance on equipment including developing and executing preventive maintenance schedules and making decisions regarding emergency maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable State and Federal governmental safety and standard regulations, including but not limited to HACCP, USDA, PCQI, OSHA, GMP, Health Department Safety Guidelines.
  • Oversee plant best-practice safety programs ensuring the occupational safety of all employees in the facility and safe production of all food products.
  • Partner with waste management facilities to develop programs that will foster FoodMaven Meat Processing’s goal of zero-waste.
  • Maintain and clean all equipment, tools, workstations and overall plant facility sanitation.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Meat handling and processing experience : 10 years (Required)
  • Management experience with profit and loss responsibility in a Meat Processing Facility: 2 years (Required)
  • HACCP Development: 2 years (Required)
  • HACCP Certified (Preferred)
  • PCQI Certified (Preferred)
  • OSHA-30 Certified (Preferred)
  • GMP Certified (Preferred)
