Position Description
The Manager, Systems Engineering will develop and lead the team of IT professionals who are responsible for the delivery of highly available multi-tenant VmWare, Microsoft Windows, Linux environments. This leader will help guide the team in designing, developing and implementing cloud, and hybrid-cloud solutions for clients. The incumbent will promote and implement automation, orchestration and DevOps principles to drive standardization and scalability. Manage departmental budgets, product lines, and P&L. Develop roadmaps, define value propositions and solution positioning
Responsibilities
- Management of the systems engineering team including staffing, annual performance reviews, and daily task oversight
- Tier 3 incident escalation and problem-solving. Assist with Tier 3 troubleshooting.
- Manages the installation and maintenance of customer-managed hosting and cloud services
- Provides status of projects, reporting of support activity and provisioning activities to engineering management
- Oversee the ongoing infrastructure maintenance and change control scheduling to include capacity expansions and system upgrades
- Maintains an excellent working relationship with other organizations
- Facilitates the successful completion of ongoing certifications requirements of the systems engineering staff
- Leads the team in design and development of advanced product offerings and new technologies in support revenue generation
Preferred Education and Experience:
- B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering
- MCSE Certification or VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Prior experience in hosting environments
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience with VMware ESX
- 5+ years of experience managing an engineering team
- 5+ years of experience working with enterprise server platforms
- 2+ years of experience with enterprise storage solutions
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft and Linux platforms and technologies
- Familiar with scripting technologies
- Comprehensive understanding of storage technologies including fiber channel, iSCSI, nfs
- Basic server hardware troubleshooting skills
- Understanding of Networking concepts
- Experience with complex integration of both vendor-provided and custom systems and software
- Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge and skills immediately
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in highly secure and heavily audited environments
- Experience with multi-data center system design and deployment
- Proven ability to absorb, master and leverage emerging technologies
- Proven ability to effectively manage staff remotely
- Successful in managing cross-functional projects
- Proven ability to build strategic relationships with external and internal customers.
