Manager, Operations Engineering

Position Description
To manage and lead the operations engineering team which performs network acceptance and maintenance of all IP and Ethernet core infrastructures. Develop, document and maintain network standards by performing the following duties:
Responsibilities
- Create and deploy Maintenance Requests for after-hours network augments
- Network mesh of all backbone infrastructure
- Ensure all devices are running an approved up to date software image
- Implement base configuration standards for all core, distribution and edge layer devices
- Implement configuration standards for all customer services
- Work directly with Dev Ops / Architecture on network integrations and special projects
- Work directly with NOPSS to ensure all network tools are accessible from devices
- Ensure all devices are configured properly to report alarms
- 24x7x365 Tier IV support for IP TAC
- Plan staffing levels
- Recruit, interview, select, hire and employ the operations engineering team
- Provide oversight and direction
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and career development planning
- Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among the operations engineering team
- Lead employees using a performance management and development process to provide effective performance feedback.
- Maintain employee work schedules including assignments, job rotation, training and PTO.
- Work directly with the NCC and IP TAC for overall health of the network
- Work directly with vendors as required for special network deployments
- Constantly watching the network for issues and alerting the NCC when one is identified
- Run scripts across the network looking for inconsistencies or required updates
- As network risks are identified, ensure they are properly documented and addressed
Qualifications
- 5+ years working in a service provider role
- JNCIP-SP/JNCIS-SP or equivalent
- CCNP – Cisco Certified Network Professional or equivalent
- Proficient in Routing and Switching fundamentals
- Previous management or equivalent leadership experience
- Must have experience with Juniper and Cisco hardware
- Flexible schedule to support the deployment of after-hours maintenance requests
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail oriented
- Flexible and adapts well to a constantly changing environment
- Most work is done in an area where normal office noise is present. Must be able to work remote to support escalation requests and after hour network augments. Flexible schedule is required.
