IT Technician

GigSmart is seeking an IT Technician to assist on various IT projects and provide onsite technical support for the team. The IT Technician will support GigSmart’s networks, systems and tools that keep the business growing and our information safe. In time, the successful candidate will make recommendations for servers, and data networks with a focus on network security.

Job Description

The IT Technician will be responsible for administering equipment for new and existing employees and will be the primary point of contact for all things IT-related. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the latest technology, is a self-starter, and is eager to learn and grow. The IT Tech will work quickly, methodically, and efficiently through projects, assigned tasks, and troubleshooting of all IT related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Be the go-to for internal IT support spanning hardware/ software and network troubleshooting
  • Ensure all systems are performing and functioning properly
  • Own all new hire on-boarding and off-boarding of exiting employees in regards to systems access and equipment
  • Develop and enforce security best-practices
  • Coordinate with external vendors to get equipment serviced
  • Inventory management of all GigSmart tech and office equipment
  • Monitor systems in order to optimize performance and to initiate recovery action after system failures
  • Identify and explore new technologies which will help enhance the overall IT function
  • Prepare and maintain system layout documentation as well as troubleshooting guides
  • Responsible for all service tickets
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned by manager and upper management

Skills and Competencies

  • Basic knowledge in server computing, networking, desktop setup/support, and business applications
  • Experience maintaining Windows and Mac computers
  • Comfortable with cloud-based SAAS environments and Google products
  • Thorough knowledge of commonly used network protocols
  • Knowledge of network security practices and anti-virus programs

Educational & Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in an IT support role/ help desk role
  • Excellent communication, written and verbal and interpersonal skills
