The Operations Strategic Support Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from technologies and investments to supply chain, manufacturing and test operations, facilities management, and information technology services.


Integrated Supply Chain Functional Area Manager Senior


The Functional Area Manager for Supply Chain Business Operations will act in the capacity of “Deputy” to the Director of Supply Chain Business Operations Management and will be responsible for the management and oversight of all internal supply chain tools & activities required to implement the supply chain strategy and support the day-to-day operations of the SC organization. Areas of oversight may include, but are not limited to, SC tools & technology roadmap, KPI’s and metrics, make/buy development, support new business capture & proposal process, and integration of material program management process and tools. The position will manage the requirements for tool and process changes within Integrated Supply Chain, and drive improvement and streamlining of processes using knowledge of the existing systems and integrating subject matter experts (SMEs) as necessary. The leader will identify tools, technology and analytics gaps and potential solutions that improve efficiencies, eliminate waste, and reduce cycle-time. The Business Operations team is relatively new to Ball Aerospace and represents an exciting opportunity to impact a Supply Chain Transformation and develop and lead process, tools, technology, and strategy demands of this rapidly growing organization. This position requires multi-disciplined and cross-functional leadership in a matrixed environment, knowledge of Supply Chain processes and integration of procurement systems with business systems and processes. This position reports directly to the Ball Aerospace Senior Director of Supply Chain.


What You’ll Do:


  • Guide and supervise a diverse and growing team of Supply Chain professionals responsible for providing the tools, training, and compliance oversight necessary to ensure the Ball Aerospace Supply Chain organization performs its function in a manner consistent with all Federal, DoD, Commercial and other unique customer regulations.
  • Develop the technology roadmap in concert with Ball Aerospace ITS and deliver recurring KPI / metric reports in concert with Operations Data Analytics team is a required output of the SC Operations.
  • Develop and execute the 3-5 year Supply Chain Strategy and work with Business Operations Director to ensure the Business and other Functional priorities and needs are incorporated in ISC strategy. Development of the tactical continuous improvement plan and provide oversight to internal “project management” resources to drive execution of initiatives aligning to the strategic plan will be a top priority.
  • Build on Ball Culture with authentic, inspirational, collaborative leadership. Provide a motivating atmosphere for the department and/or support function supervised to achieve business objectives.
  • Manage budgets and finances and department resources. Ensures company finances, costs, property, etc. is utilized appropriately and in the best interest of the company, our customers, to ensure budget performance.
  • Present information on department performance to SC Senior Director, SC leadership team and/or Ball Aerospace management, as required.
  • Ensure that proper and sound business practices are implemented and followed in relation to all acquisition & financial matters.
  • Ensure that all business is conducted using the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations as well as company policies and directives.
  • Perform those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the company including provision for the selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee safety, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating, and measuring the work performed within the company.
  • Perform such individual assignments as directed; establish and maintain effective work relationships within the SC Organization, Ball Aerospace, Ball Corporation, and the community; and maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
  • Partner with fellow SC, ITS and Operations Leaders to develop the technology roadmap and KPI / metric reports required to support the SBU and purchasing organizations and clearly measure.
  • Document metrics requirements, execute changes/upgrades/expansion to metrics to include data visualization; provide methods to monitor for improvement to Integrated Supply Chain.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You’ll Need:


  • BS/BA in related field plus 12 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Top Secret security clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in highly complex business procedures and strategies across the acquisition lifecycle, specifically within DoD / NASA construct.
  • Professional experience in cross-functional matrixed leadership and Business Material Management experience.
  • Professional experience and demonstrated expertise in US Government Program Proposal Development, US Government purchasing / acquisitions, and material handling.
  • A working knowledge of standard tools, KPIs and processes required to support and measure the value-add of the SC organization (i.e. MRP, Invoicing, Forecasting, compliance, etc).
  • Ability to act in a leadership capacity, provide vision to those supervised, and guide diverse departments and employees to ever higher levels of achievement.
  • Ability to effectively relate with others and cooperate as a team member.
  • Demonstrated expertise in aerospace industry and government contracting and billing procedures.
  • Ability to effectively interact with suppliers and external customers at the highest levels.
  • Strong and proven leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop high performance work teams.
  • Extensive FAR/DFAR knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Ability to Travel 10-25%.
  • Majority of career spent as team / organizational leader in Aerospace & Defense Supply Chain organization; 25% or more of career with Tier 1 Defense Contractor (i.e. Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, etc) preferred.
  • Varied experience across all types of material-based programs from Research & Development (R&D), initial Prototype, to limited production, and high-rate repeatable production.
  • Recognized, formal industry certification in one or more of the following: Program Management, Contract Management, 6 Sigma, and/or Supply Chain Management.
  • Capture or proposal lead experience.
  • Ability to lead through influence & work with diverse counterparts across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships and collaborate productively with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop high performance work teams.
  • Must possess effective leadership, teamwork, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office and must be able to work in a multi-task, fast-paced environment.
  • Creative and integrative thinking, combining out-of-the box thinking, ability to question the status quo and generally accepted beliefs, ability to integrate diverse facts and experiences to improve strategic decisions.
  • A high tolerance for ambiguity and demonstrated ability to achieve results in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities are required.

Compensation & Benefits:


  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $152,500 - $210,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
