Initiative Management Team Lead. The Initiative Delivery Leader reports to the Director of Portfolio and Program Management (PPM) and is responsible for leading a team of initiative managers (IMs).

 

 

 

The Initiative Delivery Leader reports to the Director of Portfolio and Program Management (PPM) and is responsible for leading a team of initiative managers (IMs).   The IM team is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of complex multifaceted projects, including coordination of multiple teams, deliveries, requirements and milestone deliverables.  Individuals are responsible for tracking progress to milestone events and ensuring that schedules are coordinated with subcontractors, internal teams and customers. 

 

A successful candidate in this role is a solutions-focused leader who is able to see business problems and address them in a collaborative and pragmatic manner with the appropriate portfolio managers, initiative managers, architects, technical leads and release train leaders.  Delivers value through broad knowledge of delivery domains, reuse of standard methods and focus on initiative execution and timely delivery.  The Initiative Delivery Leader will lead the team of IMs as well as periodically serve as the IM on select initiatives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead team to consistently employ project management concepts, practices, and procedures to initiate, plan, execute, control, and close systems engineering projects. 
  • Serve as PPM lead for all joint activities with development trains and planning events.
  • Manage all HR related activities for team including goal setting and career development.
  • Manage portfolio level financial execution, forecast, and in-service related activities.
  • Manage stakeholder communication to internal and external management regarding status of projects.
  • Lead enterprise process improvement efforts as requested.
  • Organize and drive highly complex activities for the development, implementation, and maintenance of technical projects involving satellite systems, remote sensing, imagery and content processing, service oriented architectures, web enabled ecommerce and delivery.
  • Set deadlines, identify, obtain and track resource commitments and dependencies, drive issues and actions, monitor and mitigate risk, proactively manage and control portfolio progress.
  • Identify and manage internal and external portfolio dependencies, manage project scope, budget and schedule.
  • Understand and analyze project issues against objectives and scope, develop recommendations and coordinate and communicate tradeoffs and options which support customer and business objectives.
  • Exercise creativity and judgment to coordinate the efforts of the System Engineering team, Software Development team, and Integration and Test teams towards successful project completion.
  • Bring others together and act as a facilitator to reconcile differences.
  • Deliver oral and written communications in a clear and concise manner while adapting to a variety of communication settings and styles.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, standards and processes to maintain consistency and quality with project delivery.

 

 

 

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Citizen and the ability to obtain US Security Clearance
  • 8+ years of overall professional experience
  • BS in computer science, software engineering, aerospace, remote sensing sciences, or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years of software project/program management
  • Applied experience independently managing multiple complex projects
  • Ability to define and implement process changes with effective communication and change management techniques
  • Understanding and use of project/project management metrics
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills
  • Proven negotiator with experience in leading from a position of influence
  • Familiarity with software development practices and various methodologies (Scaled Agile Framework preferred: SAFe, and Waterfall experience is beneficial as well)
  • Experience with subcontractor and/or vendor management
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational agility skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills; high-energy attitude a must
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-through

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • DoD Secret Clearance preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred
