- Provide technical assistance and guidance on test availability, composition, selection, and interpretation of NGS testing to include WGS and WES
- Assist with the resolution of next-generation sequencing testing issues, such as inadequate specimens, questions regarding variants, quality control
- Maintain and update patient and provider materials
- Review next-generation sequencing test orders for urgency and accuracy
- Obtain relevant patient clinical history for case review and interpretation
- Compose and review reports with laboratory medical directors
- Participate in scientific and quality-assurance studies and research related to the laboratory's services
- Participate in development and implementation of new or improved clinical test services based on next-generation sequencing
- Follow the established policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Follow the established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the established acceptable levels of performance.
- Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the GS, TS, CC, or LD.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the established performance specifications.
- Be available for clinical consultation concerning test results and the interpretation of test results as they relate to specific patient conditions.
- Be available to assist the laboratory’s clients in ensuring that tests meet clinical expectations.
- Ensure that consultation is available and communicated to the laboratory’s clients on matters related to the quality of test results and their interpretation concerning patient conditions
- Master's Degree from an accredited Genetic Counseling Program
- Board-certification and/or license in Genetic Counseling (as appropriate for the location)
- Oncology genetics experience and knowledge of germline and somatic next-generation sequencing panels are desirable
- Minimum 2-3yrs experience in clinical genetics practice or experience in laboratory genetic counseling
- Professional knowledge of the rapidly changing principles and practice of medical, clinical and molecular genetics
