Travelers Haven is looking for a dynamic, experienced, and knowledgeable leader of people, slayer of problems, and hustler for opportunities for our Director of Operations role.

Hiring rate/range: $100,000 - $120,000 annually, with a variable incentive bonus at an annual target of $20,000 and equity in the form of stock options. 

Actual compensation offered to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level. The pay ratio between base and target incentive (if applicable) will be finalized at offer.

Work Location: Denver, CO. Our office is open, and we require all staff to be in the office a minimum 2 days per week. 

Summary:
The ideal candidate will have experience leading entry-level roles and supervisory roles, transforming teams, processes, and creating positive outcomes for the broader organization. In addition, candidates must have a highly versatile skill set to juggle a wide range of responsibilities, including, but not limited to, data analytics, people management, hiring/firing decisions, presentations to Executive team or Board of Advisors, strategic planning, budget planning, etc. Regardless of the task, the ideal candidate has a knack for getting things done and delivering results. Whether that’s through original ingenious solutions or by borrowing best practices.

To fast-track the onboarding experience for the ideal candidate, there will be a probationary 90-day period where the person will be tasked with three key objectives that will allow them to dive-deep into the inner workings of a critical department in the organization, Territory Management. This team is responsible for producing quotes for our clients based on their housing needs. Anything and everything will be in-scope, from team structure/organization to commission plans to systems and processes.

Upon successful completion of the initial 90-days’ objectives, this person will have opportunities to collaborate with the Executive team and plan a transition into any of the following:

  • Strategic Sourcing/Territory Management (Going deeper into the role from the trial period and building more scale, technology, org structure and processes)
  • M&A Integration (We plan on growing through acquisitions starting later this year)
  • Operations Management (Getting additional teams to lead)
  • Business Unit Leader (P&L responsibilities with a crossfunctional team consisting of varied roles)
  • Continuous Improvement (Building a Lean Six Sigma Center of Excellence)
  • Quality Assurance (Achieving 6Sigma levels with guests’ experience within our move-in processes)
  • Potentially other strategically important opportunities

This position will report directly to the CEO during the probationary period with dotted line to the VP of Strategic Partnerships.


Essential Functions:

  • Continually and proactively evaluate and identify market trends and external factors that may impact internal performance such as new construction, apartment vacancy, inflation, eviction moratoriums, etc.
  • Manage and lead a team of about a dozen people including individual contributors and supervisory roles.
  • Lead, through influence and business cases, your peers and executives to proactively test new ideas, processes, and technologies.
  • Communicate succinctly and proactively across all layers of the organization and be comfortable presenting at allhands meetings with all of our associates.
  • Effective problem solver through data analytics, kaizen events, and ingenuity.
  • Works crossfunctionally to understand inputs and outputs and how the relate to other department’s performance, particularly how the impact the overall financial position of the company.
  • Hiring, promotions, and firing of department’s team members. Conducts performance evaluations and oneon-one meetings in a timely and constructive manner.
  • Establishes quantitative and qualitative metrics, KPIs, guidelines, and standards for the department. Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Evaluates current training requirements and develops improvements, resulting in optimal performance of operational staff.
  • Implements policies and procedures and changes to those that will continue pushing the envelope on what is possible from a performance standpoint.
  • Projects a positive image of the organization to associates, customers, industry partners, and the community atlarge.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written
  • 10+ years of experience in operations management roles
  • Experience leading projects, establishing timelines, delegating authority, and holding others accountable for deliverables
  • Proven record of improving team or department’s performance quickly and effectively
  • Superior interpersonal and influencing skills. Has the ability to communicate complex concepts to a wide array of audiences
  • Lean Six Sigma certified and/or experience implementing six sigma (or similar)processes
  • Extremely proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and other data analytics tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proactive decisionmaker and problem solver
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management, or related fields. MBA is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in an Operations rotational program is preferred but not required.
