The Position

We are seeking a mid-career market development expert (with utility regulatory experience) to report to the Vice President, Market Innovation to commercialize innovative new solutions in incubation within Step Change Labs, our innovation and growth incubation team. 

What you get to do:

• Evaluate the state-level regulatory context for innovative energy utility solutions under consideration:
  • Research and evaluate potential constraints to piloting and scaling
  • Research and evaluate processes for accessing utility budgets
  • Assess regulator and stakeholder sentiment towards potential Uplight solutions, identifying potential allies and opponents
• Advocate for the appropriate valuation and procurement of the solutions in active collaboration with utility clients:
  • Engage regulators, staff, and key stakeholders to educate on value propositions and alignment with their goals
  • Develop and deliver educational collateral in stakeholder processes to build support for solutions incubation
  • Engage in and/or supervise engagement in formal regulatory proceedings to secure necessary approvals for the commercialization of and cost recovery for pilots and commercialized solutions
• Track state regulatory and legislative developments in coordination with marketing, market intelligence, sales, and customer success colleagues

What you will contribute:

• Understanding of utility regulation, processes, tools, and structure

What you bring to Uplight:

• 10 years of experience in the energy, utility, or an adjacent industry
• Ability to actively collaborate with utilities, regulators, and stakeholders/intervenors 
• Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills

 Bonus Points:

• Experience advocating for the transformation of DSM programs, distribution planning and/or IRP processes and tools, or wholesale power markets

The successful candidate is anticipated to have a juris doctorate or master’s degree in policy (or equivalent) but those are not required

 Salary Range: $100,000 to $125,000 (dependent on experience)
