The company

Azevtec (Autonomous, Zero-Emission Vehicle Technologies) is automating 'first-mile' trucking. We simplify how large enterprises ship goods—our robotic systems automate repetitive vehicle movement and manual tasks in the world’s busiest freight-shipping hubs to enhance operational performance, reduce costs, and improve safety.

Azevtec is a rapidly growing, Series-A company founded to drive the adoption of sustainable transportation and deploy autonomous vehicles responsibly.

The role

The Autonomous Vehicle Field Technician reports to the Head of Autonomous Vehicle Operations and helps test, operate, maintain, and evaluate Azevtec's self-driving vehicle system, including heavy trucks and combination vehicles. The Autonomous Vehicle Operator's most important responsibility is ensuring and maintaining safety during operation.

Vehicles will operate in multiple modes, including manual-only and automated, corresponding to SAE levels of automated driving up to and including Level 4.

The Autonomous Vehicle Field Technician will be responsible for monitoring the vehicle and driving environment; determining whether and how to return the vehicle to a minimum-risk condition; and intervening in automated driving tasks to resume manual or computer control for safety and performance assessment purposes.

This role is hands-on, requiring acute attentiveness to the vehicle system during operation, as well as constant observations of its performance both in the cab and via a software-based dispatching/monitoring tool. The work you do will support the development and delivery of safe, error-free, and effective autonomous vehicle systems for the largest companies in the world that ship freight.

Duties and responsibilities

    • Safely operate vehicles, either in the cab or remotely via a web-based dispatching/monitoring user interface, for 8-10+ hours per day
    • Observe, assess, and improve our test and production-level autonomous vehicle systems
    • Use keen judgment to determine appropriate on-the-spot responses to vehicle performance and safety issues
    • Provide insightful and thorough verbal and/or written test reports on system performance - including vehicle and system data and/or observations related to automated driving system development - for Engineering, Vehicle Operations, Customer Success and Executive staff
    • Maintain a current Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) valid in Colorado and in any other state of the United States, as requested (the CDL must be carried at all times on the job)
    • Perform preventative maintenance checks and services on autonomous vehicles, including, but not limited to, preparation, installation, and maintenance of vehicle hardware
    • Support field testing, both locally and at remote customer sites
    • Perform minor repairs under the direction of engineering staff and/or in accordance with OEM repair instructions

Required qualifications

    • Desire and ability to understand Azevtec autonomous vehicle system and technology through the constant reading of documentation and Q&A with colleagues
    • Flexibility for day, night, and/or weekend work, as needed (and sometimes on short notice)
    • Unwavering focus on safety and helping to explore and implement system improvements
    • Obvious interest in and enthusiasm about autonomous vehicles
    • Facility with desktop software and web applications
    • Class A CDL and clean driving record
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Contagious energy and positivity in relationships and interactions
    • Sterling references

Ideal qualifications

    • Demonstrated track record of success working with multi-disciplinary teams in and out of an office environment
    • Autonomous vehicle experience or expertise
    • Experience in operations, technology, robotics, or automotive field
    • Experience maintaining vehicles, ground-based or otherwise
