Key Responsibilities

Establish and maintain metadata management standards, including data classifications, taxonomy, lineage, glossary terms, and stewardship metadata.
Partner with data engineers, data stewards, and governance teams to curate technical and business metadata, and ensure alignment across domains.
Support the integration of metadata from BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), databases (e.g., Snowflake), and pipelines into the catalog.
Contribute to automation of metadata enrichment using rule-based tagging or GenAI-assisted NLP features when appropriate.
Collaborate with Data Governance and Data Quality leads to ensure metadata supports policies, lineage, and trusted data scoring.
Promote catalog adoption across the business by developing training materials, conducting onboarding sessions, and supporting end users.
Monitor metadata quality, ensure consistency, and participate in continuous improvement efforts to increase discoverability and compliance.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in data cataloging, metadata management, or data governance.
Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise data cataloging platform (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Alation, Collibra, DataHub).
Strong understanding of metadata management practices, including business glossary, data lineage, classifications, and stewardship.
Basic familiarity with SQL and modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
Experience working cross-functionally with data engineering, governance, and business stakeholders to support catalog and metadata requirements.
Proven ability to document, manage, and communicate complex metadata and data asset details to technical and non-technical users.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong sense of curiosity and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with AI or NLP-based metadata enrichment tools or tagging frameworks.
Experience using automation or scripting (e.g., Python, APIs) for metadata operations.
