Position: Technical Writer
Are you able to communicate complicated concepts in a way that's clear and engaging? Are you driven by helping people solve problems and by improving the systems they use to solve them? Do you have an affinity for technology and possibly even experience in IT? If so, come help one of Colorado’s hottest SaaS startups.
We’re searching for a skilled writer who is eager to deeply explore innovative technology and launch our customers to rapid success using concise and easy-to-understand content. By digging in directly with the product and working with talented people across the organization, you’ll develop a deep knowledge of the product and the problems it solves. Armed with that knowledge, you’ll create content for customers and refine it by gathering feedback from colleagues and customers. Ultimately, you’ll publish your content as knowledge base articles, release notes, sample and tutorial instructions, stand-alone guides, and internal reference documentation. Along the way, you’ll collaborate with the team to improve processes and develop new strategies for providing world-class assistance to JumpCloud users.
We are a fast-paced environment that always strives for excellence and efficiency, while making room for new ideas and creativity. This is an opportunity to utilize your aptitude for technology and grow your expertise as a writer.
What you’ll do:
  • Produce in-depth online help and other documentation
  • Become a subject matter expert (SME) of an advanced, cloud-based IT tool
  • Learn by doing: interacting with the product directly, via both UI and API
  • Work with cross functional teams to understand and refine content
  • Use and contribute to templates, standards, and style guides
  • Participate in agile ceremonies with teams developing new features to identify and execute on documentation needs
  • Set personal timelines and schedules to accommodate shifting priorities
  • Begin to work on documentation outside of new development work, such as proofreading, revising, and rewriting existing documentation
  • Begin to identify opportunities for additional content that will benefit users

What we’d love for you to have to be successful in this role:
  • A zeal for customer service and computer technology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely
  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Journalism or similar
  • 2+ years relevant work experience in the areas of technical marketing, product documentation, and technical writing, preferably in a cloud-based, enterprise software company
  • Expertise with basic documentation software; familiarity with basic HTML scripting
  • Ability to understand the core elements of the JumpCloud product well enough to represent the user
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Previous work experience as an IT Admin, SysAdmin, or Support Technician
  • Basic understanding of the following technologies would be ideal (Active Directory, LDAP, RADIUS, Single sign-on, Windows, macOS and Linux, screen capture software, help desk software)

If you don’t have these skills, but you’re a strong technical writer with a desire to learn, we’re still happy to consider your application. It’s important to know that this is a job that requires rigorous training followed by clear communication in deeply technical subject matter such as authentication, system management, and networking.
Where you’ll work: Our corporate offices in downtown Boulder.
Why JumpCloud? JumpCloud is disrupting and modernizing a multi-billion dollar industry owned by the legacy IT world vendors. You’ll have a voice in the organization, working with a seasoned executive team, a supportive board, and a proven market that our customers are excited about.
This is a great place to share and grow your expertise! You’ll work with an amazing team to continue to support a worldwide customer base.
Please submit your résumé, a technical writing sample, or link to your writing, and a brief explanation about yourself and why you would be a good fit for JumpCloud.

An Insider's view of JumpCloud

What’s the vibe like in the office?

A key trait for us is having an open, positive mind. We believe that taking the road less travelled - or at least exercising that path - will create new, different, and interesting ideas. We ask our teams to always consider the outside-of-the-box solution to a problem and encourage them to try those creative ideas.

VP of People

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

I work with multiple teams across the organization to highlight and recruit for openings at JumpCloud. We like to have a diverse group of people in our interview process. Hiring at pace is a huge goal for JumpCloud so it's essential for us to build connections with all of our stakeholders.

What makes someone successful on your team?

My team members feel empowered to create, design and execute with a lot of freedom at JumpCloud. This enables them to take an active role in their career development and the development of other team members at JumpCloud.

Manager, Learning and Development

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

I'm available pretty much anytime via email, Slack, phone, in person. More than the communication vehicles and time, I really like to dig in on projects with our teams. By working on important issues together as just another voice or hand to help, I think that helps the team feel that I'm accessible to them and there to help.

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

One of the core roles in our engineering group is called pathfinder.
