Job Description – Sr. Email Marketing and Automation Specialist

Minimum Educational Req: Two or four-year college degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in the area of journalism or a related field

Years of Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a similar or related position

 

Position Summary:

The Sr. Email Marketing and Automation Specialist is responsible for building, executing, and maintaining all elements within the email marketing strategy for the company, including managing segmentation and the flow of data. This role will be a part of the Content team and will work closely with members of the Creative team to build pre-designed emails and evaluate all emails on an ongoing basis.
 

Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities:

  • Build, code, and deploy responsive HTML emails using Marketo.

  • Follow pixel perfect coding techniques from Photoshop and other creative documents.

  • Use HTML to build Drupal landing pages related to email campaigns.

  • Coordinate with the Creative team and other business stakeholders to assist with the creation of effective and dynamic email content.

  • Support overall marketing strategy and execution and maintain an organized and up-to-date campaign calendar.

  • Create and manage a database of emails for lead generation and client communications. This includes purging non-deliverable email addresses and opt-outs.

  • Monitor campaigns to ensure consistency across all major email providers (AOL, Gmail, Outlook, etc.).

  • Determine whether creative assets for upcoming campaigns are complete and edit as necessary.

  • Ensure compliance with CAN-SPAM regulations.

  • Define list selection criteria and create email segments.

  • Through live-send or post-send analysis, determine the overall effectiveness of each campaign and provide the resulting data and recommendations to the Content Manager and Marketing Director.
     

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in needs analysis, as well as the design, development, and implementation of automated and triggered marketing programs designed to drive revenue and enhance customer retention.

  • Experience identifying and interpreting key performance indicators to optimize email messaging, promotional opportunities, and campaign design.

  • Experience deploying A/B and multivariate testing initiatives, as well as reporting of test findings in presentation and documentation.

  • Experience managing large and complex client databases.
     

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not supervise the work of others.

Internal and external interaction:

This position interacts with peers both in and out of the Marketing department, as well as their immediate manager on a regular basis. They may interact with customers and vendors directly in escalation or support situations in a large geographical area.
 

Skills Required:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and according to deadlines.

  • Ability to support multiple (20+) email campaigns simultaneously.

  • Ability to discuss particulars of design with the Creative team as well as technical details with the IT team.

  • Ability to turn creativity into solid marketing solutions.
     

Technical Skills Required:

  • Marketing automation software such as Marketo, Eloqua, Pardot, or Emarsys.

  • Transactional email software such as Mandrill.

  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM software.

  • Graphic design abilities and experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications.

  • CSS (including Media Queries) and HTML experience.

  • Understanding of proper automation and data flows between CRM systems and email clients.
