We’re looking for a Manager of Digital Marketing to join our rapidly growing team!

We’re Verblio: a unique content writing startup based in Denver, CO. Content is a core foundation of modern marketing. But it’s really hard to create quality content, particularly at scale. It requires time, resources, and talent, and many companies simply can’t reasonably or cost-effectively staff in-house.

That’s where we come in. By combining a marketplace business model with the flexibility and deep vertical expertise of SaaS, Verblio enables writers to create 70,000+ pieces of unique content per year for our customers. With a network of over 3,000 professional writers, Verblio provides the platform for modern digital agencies, businesses, enterprises, and publishers to create unique content creation solutions.

To do all of this, we’ve created a high-performing SaaS startup led by a 15-year marketplace industry veteran and staffed by a team of energetic, eclectic startup junkies, writing enthusiasts, and random liberal arts degree collectors.

We’ve been on a full-tilt growth spurt for several years and have grandiose plans for world domination in the near future...and that’s where you come in!  We are looking for the right Manager of Digital Marketing to join our team to add jet fuel to this rocket. Ready?

About the role:

Are you a digital marketing super-nerd? A t-shaped digital marketer with experience across SEO/PPC/CRO/digital analytics?  If so, read on, we’ve got something exciting.

Here’s the situation …

Verblio’s business is driven primarily by inbound marketing. We’re blessed with a 50 DA (if you don’t know what that means, this isn’t the role for you), and we’ve been creating a lot of content for a long time. We’re pretty darn strong on the SEO front and get a fairly large volume of qualified traffic (and a large volume of unqualified traffic—we rank #1 for ‘best Halloween candy names’, but that’s a story for another day). We’ve got a shiny new-ish website that reflects our Fall 2018 rebrand to Verblio. We’ve got a head of content marketing, we’ve got good webdev resources, we’ve got Google Optimize installed, we’ve got SEO and PPC agencies. We’ve got analysis to show that we’ve got massive opportunities to move the needle through SEO, PPC, and CRO.

Here’s what we need …

What we don’t have is the bandwidth to dive deep across these disciplines, or deep enough in-house expertise in several of them. We’re looking for a digital marketing expert who is going to be enthralled by the prospect of increasing qualified traffic, MQLs, and sales through a combination of:

  • Digital analytics
  • SEO
  • CRO
  • PPC

Since it’s not possible to be a super-expert in SEO, CRO & PPC, our idea is that you’ll dive deepest in your area of expertise, and we’ll augment with agencies/ consultants/ other resources across the other two. That said, we are looking for someone with a deep interest in all 3.

This full-time, exempt position will be responsible for:

  • Digital analytics—improving them. Our current digital analytics tech stack & reporting need some help. We’re using GA + Google Optimize + Google Ads + FB Ads Manager + Search Console + Infusionsoft (our CRM & marketing automation) + data from our app + Metabase, an open-source analytics tool. We’ve got some monthly reporting we do ourselves, some coming in from agencies. We need to figure out how to get more accurate and actionable data out of this system, or what else we need.
  • Digital analytics—using them & reporting & iterating on them. Update and create new weekly/monthly/quarterly reports that help us understand performance and make decisions. Identify areas for ad-hoc analytics, respond to requests from the team for more analytics.
  • Designing and implementing a methodology for CRO that improves our digital ecosystem and improves the funnel. We’ve got good volumes of traffic to play with, good assets for lead magnets and flexible front-end systems for testing, but we haven’t put much emphasis here yet. We also have a multi-visit sales funnel that spans both self-serve & a managed sales process to complicate things.
  • Strategize & manage our PPC efforts. PPC is relatively new for us, we believe it has a lot of potential. You’ll own everything from keyword targeting to A/B testing on ads, to landing page & offer testing and the follow-up email/sales funnel testing.
  • Manage our SEO efforts. Using the various disciplines of SEO, create and prioritize projects, partner with our head of content, our webdev team, etc. to focus on improving our content & on-page SEO, link building, and technical SEO.
  • Working with other members of the team to test & execute marketing campaigns.  We’ve got a strong team—full-time and contract resources in content marketing, email marketing, copywriting, design, and more. You’ll work with all of these folks to design and execute campaigns.
  • Managing relationships with digital agencies. We currently work with an SEO agency and a PPC agency, we may need more, we certainly need to get the most out of them.
  • All the rest! This is a small-but-mighty startup. We often work cross-functionally, special projects come up, and there’s plenty of opportunities to dive in and help in other areas across marketing and more.

What you will need to be successful in this role:

  • 3-5 years of digital marketing experience.
  • Deep expertise in Google Analytics. Some expertise in Search Console, Google Ads, Facebook Ads manager.
  • Direct experience using an A/B testing tool for the web—Google Optimize, VWO, Optimizely, etc.
  • Experience in all and deep expertise in one of the following three:  SEO, PPC, or CRO, some experience in the other two.
  • A data-driven mentality, and the interest to build reporting, tracking, and systems that create insights & drive decision making.
  • A desire to work closely and collaboratively with the rest of our marketing team, our sales team, to align around revenue goals.
  • Experience managing digital agencies preferred.
  • A desire to do all of this in a startup environment where budgets aren’t unlimited, systems can be complex & imperfect, and scrappiness is required.
  • An interest in digital marketing that borders on obsession.

What makes Verblio a great place to work?

  • We work hard, have fun, learn a lot, and are proud of our transparent, collaborative culture.
  • We believe in doing good, and that creating great opportunities for home-based writers is just as important as helping our clients find their next customer.
  • Last year we made the Inc 5000 list and won our fifth Mercury 100 award as one of the fastest-growing companies in the Boulder Valley.
  • We offer competitive salaries, equity, health, dental & vision insurance, and a generous vacation policy.
