Spark is a venture-backed startup with the ambitious goal of disrupting a stale industry. We are looking for a Head of Growth Marketing to join our 25 person (and growing) team.

Our ideal candidate has worked with a DTC startup and has the expertise to develop and execute the performance/growth strategy for our 2020 launch. You will be responsible for understanding channel insights, operating our paid and organic growth campaigns, driving acquisition and retention, as well as continuous improvement on our higher level strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define our strategy and approach for growth across the full DTC marketing funnel, including paid and organic initiatives.
    • Understand the full customer lifecycle and how to balance and focus our efforts across awareness, conversion, and loyalty.
    • Work closely with cross-functional department leaders to set, validate and adjust business-critical KPIs (CAC, retention, LTV/payback, etc)
    • Bring in best practices so we’re running a tight ship right away.
  • Build and manage the right resources for launch and growth.
    • Select and run point on performance marketing or media agency partners.
    • Help us build our marketing technology stack; Evaluate and implement tools and processes for scale.
    • Get your hands dirty, but keep an eye on what’s ahead. Know when to operate campaigns yourself, when to leverage external resources and when to grow the team.
  • Drive insights around audiences, channels, messages and spend in order to continuously improve our approach.
    • Produce the analysis needed to know what’s working, what’s not, why, and what we should do/try next. Drive insights that can inform how we define and engage with different customer groups.
    • Build various overarching models (LTV, attribution, CAC, cohort, etc.); Champion those metrics and models throughout the team.
    • Build dashboards for measuring and sharing results and own weekly reporting, learning and optimization.
  • Directly operate our initial paid campaigns, including paid social, SEM, display etc.
    • Identify, develop, and scale new channels quickly and efficiently to drive growth.
    • Design and implement a structured experimentation strategy to optimize our approach.
    • Balance efficiency and speed with scale and sustainability.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team. Make the people around you better, and learn from them so you can improve yourself.
    • Get up to speed quickly on our product, the market we’re operating in, and the audiences we’re going after.
    • Build technical fluency to collaborate with the Engineering and R&D teams.
    • Build credibility with the support team, by pitching in on support yourself, and by championing the user’s experience even above growth.
  • Help us inspire people to connect with others through the act of cooking outside more.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Significant performance marketing experience in a direct-to-consumer space is required. Consumer hardware experience is also desirable.
  • Proven leadership and motivational skills. Ability to communicate effectively and solve problems under pressure.
  • Must be customer driven and capable of finding and championing key customer insights.
  • Ability to be data driven. Can get nerdy with a data scientist, but can also explain concepts clearly to others. Knows when to not trust the data and the common pitfalls of overreliance.
  • Must be capable of appreciating and championing a high bar for brand. Has to earn credibility with designers by being a great collaborator. 360 appreciation for Brand from packaging to product to the hold music on the support line.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS

  • Generous equity package in a venture-backed startup.
  • Market based compensation.
  • Comprehensive benefit options with a Spark contribution to health, vision, and dental insurance.
  • Flexible scheduling and unlimited PTO policies.
  • A fun team environment where we value spending time cooking together.
  • Plenty of room for professional growth as part of a small but growing team.

DISCUSSION

We’re applying engineering, design, technology, and, above all, fresh thinking to reimagine the modern grilling experience. Wait what? Grilling is an American pastime. It’s part of our social fabric. Why change something that’s not broken?

We believe parts of the experience and category are broken or stale. Even what’s working can be improved – but we can’t ruin what people already love. That’s a tough balance to strike. But we believe there’s a huge opportunity.

Spark combines the artisanship of the pre-gas era with the technology of today to give cooks the authenticity, taste and character of charcoal without all the hassle.
