Your Mission

Establish Pie as the preeminent commercial insurance among small business owners by cultivating and engaging our audience through world-class email marketing.

How You’ll Do It

As our first dedicated email marketing hire, you will work directly with the Head of Marketing to drive the strategy and tactics for our fast-scaling email channel. You will be our primary in-house email expert in a highly cross-functional role, contributing to Pie’s growth and helping us provide a high-quality experience for our prospects and customers. You should have a strong understanding of -- and perspective about -- the channel and a desire to send personalized, relevant emails that provide value to our audience and our business. You’ll be critical to our efforts to use email strategically to engage prospects, drive sales, onboard customers, and increase retention. 

Whether It’s Right For You

You will be joining our team in either our downtown DC or Denver office. Everything we do is connected, but we each have different roles. That means we need you to be a strong executor who is comfortable taking direction and working independently. We are a start-up. All hands and minds are needed.

This is an experienced role requiring at least five (5) years of email marketing experience and offering long-term leadership potential as our team grows. While you’ll have on-the-job mentoring and knowledge-sharing, you’ll need to come in the door with certain skills. 

The Day to Day

  • Own end-to-end email marketing execution, including content creation, template development, list segmentation, tracking set-up, A/B test implementation, end-to-end QA, troubleshooting, deployment, and reporting.
  • Serve as Pie’s primary in-house email expert and collaborate with members of our marketing, data, sales, product, UX, business development, customer care, and engineering teams on highly cross-functional projects.
  • Exercise outstanding judgment in your strategic, tactical, creative, and technical recommendations and decisions about email automations and campaigns.
  • Oversee cohesive email marketing calendar, prioritizing effectively across multiple audiences and goals.
  • Monitor IP performance and inbox placement and take steps to improve sender score and deliverability as needed.
  • Help guide Pie’s email marketing technology and platform direction as industry and platforms evolve.
  • Analyze and optimize email campaign performance on an ongoing basis.

The Right Stuff

  • 5+ years of hands-on roles executing all aspects of high-volume email campaigns.
  • Expert level understanding of third-party email marketing platforms and their interactions with CRM solutions.
  • Expertise in email best practices, deliverability, and CAN-SPAM/anti-spam laws.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of responsive design and HTML/CSS coding for email.
  • Experience with a wide range of email types, from nurture campaigns to account-related transactional emails.
  • Strong technical understanding of customer databases, marketing automation, and QA testing for email.
  • Exceptional writing, spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience with SMS campaigns and landing page testing preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
