Director, Communications

How you'll make an impact
SonderMind is seeking a Director of Communications with a track record of success in building and delivering impactful communications programs for high-growth organizations. This role calls for a highly skilled communicator with deep experience leading executive communications and corporate PR. This person will take charge of communicating the organization's vision, strategies and priorities, both internally and externally, by cultivating close relationships with senior leaders and leveraging strong, trusted relationships with tech and business media. To be successful, this person must thrive in entrepreneurial environments where change is constant.
As the Communications leader, this person will be a trusted partner to the CEO, CFO, COO and CMO. They will lead all aspects of internal and external communications, including employee communications, media relations, investor communications, and social media, with the goal of increasing SonderMind's mindshare amongst all stakeholders.
Success looks like
- All internal and external communications are appropriately timed, in lock step with SonderMind's narrative, and integrated to support internal cross functional efforts.
- As the company scales, communications processes and strategies are continually updated and scaled in parallel to support additional complexity and organizational shifts.
- The CEO is consistently being provided opportunities for media engagement with top tier platforms.
- Senior leaders have a confident and informed perspective for support on how to best handle time sensitive crisis PR situations.
What you'll do
- Lead communications programs that reflect SonderMind's values, build and protect our brand reputation, articulate our narrative, propel our strategy forward, and demonstrate thought leadership in mental and behavioral health.
- Serve as a communications thought partner to the CEO and senior leadership.
- Research, develop, and edit content for internal and external executive communications, including narratives, messaging, briefing docs, scripts/talk tracks, press releases, blog posts/op-eds, and more.
- Develop and track data-driven metrics to assess the effectiveness of internal and external communications.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with reporters/editors and event organizers to further SonderMind's communications goals.
- Elevate the CEO's voice on specific topics aligned with SonderMind's strategy, including mental & behavioral health, innovation, diversity and inclusion, and corporate culture - through a thoughtful mix of speaking engagements and published written pieces.
- Lead public announcements for SonderMind.
- Oversee content for all company-wide meetings and key communications to ensure consistency of messaging and brand alignment with team members.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and key leaders, ranging from HR and operations to product and marketing.
- Manage external agencies supporting strategic communications and content.

Required Experience
- 10+ years of experience in public relations/external communications
- 3+ years of successful managerial experience
- Excellent writing skills - including the ability to simplify complex topics and adjust tone / style as needed
- Proven background in driving measurable public relations results in support of brand and business goals, that elevates the voices of senior executives
- Strong track record partnering with cross-functional teams and agency teams to deliver results in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with new digital tools, techniques and data to enable personalized engagement with stakeholders

Our Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this role is $140,000- $170,000. This role is eligible to participate in our equity incentive and variable bonus plan. Actual compensation is based commensurate with qualifications and experience.
