Vice President of Legal
Ibotta is looking for a Vice President of Legal who will be responsible for overseeing and leading Ibotta’s Legal function. The role involves setting strategic goals for the company from a legal perspective while also coaching, recruiting and retaining a team of highly qualified legal professionals. Day to day responsibilities include handling a full range of legal matters that arise in connection with the development, offering and maintenance of consumer promotion and rebate related products and services. The candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of corporate, law firm, in-house and/or regulatory legal experience involving commercial agreements, including those focused on marketing services. The attorney will need the requisite skills to draft and negotiate agreements in connection with highly sophisticated transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide sound legal advice to the Senior Leadership Team, including the CEO, and the Board of Directors
- Hire, train, and coach a strong legal team, consisting of 3 or more employees
- Oversee drafting and negotiation of complex legal agreements, including commercial contracts, services agreements, marketing agreements, vendor agreements, and data license agreements
- Provide legal advice on borrowings, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures, including due diligence, stock and asset purchase agreements, joint venture agreements and transaction agreements and documents, and managing the closing process
- Keep relevant internal and external stakeholders apprised of pertinent legal and regulatory developments impacting the industry
- Assist in the development and launch of new consumer promotion and rebate-related products
- Ensure agreements and transactions with customers and partners comply with Ibotta’s policies
- Collaborate with internal departments to develop risk management measures and procedures, identify and resolve potential compliance issues, and conduct regulatory and business partner examinations
- Assist in creating, implementing, and maintaining a contract management system
- Assist in building out and managing a data privacy and compliance program
- Skilled at drafting, negotiating, and interpreting commercial and corporate agreements
- Manage specialized outside counsel (e.g., IP, HR, FinTech, Regulatory)
- Provide legal support on state and federal regulatory examinations or inquiries
Professional Background and Experience:
- 10+ years of legal experience, with a combination of law firm, in-house, and/or regulatory legal experience preferred
- A J.D. degree from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law in Colorado or another state
