About the Team

The Global Public Policy and Government Relations team is Zoom's API to governments around the world. We prepare Zoom for political and regulatory developments by providing analysis and developing policy strategies. We protect Zoom's ability to compete by influencing public policies and representing the company before policymakers. We promote Zoom's business by enhancing its freedom to operate and providing political "air cover".

About the Role

The Head of Global Policy Development will drive the development of public policy positions and strategies to promote Zoom's interests around the world. You will coordinate closely with key groups and departments throughout Zoom, developing relationships with important internal stakeholders and learning our business in order to craft sophisticated, effective, and consistent positions on the policy issues of greatest importance to Zoom. You will report to the Head of Global Public Policy and Government Relations. In this role, you will:

  • Serve as "connective tissue" between the Global Public Policy and Government Relations team and the rest of the company on approaches to substantive policy issues.
  • Develop and leverage substantive expertise on the public policy issues of greatest commercial and reputational importance to Zoom, including in relation to content moderation, data localization, human rights, privacy, encryption, government access to data, telecommunications regulatory issues, and child safety, among other issues.
  • Work with the Head of Global Public Policy and Government Relations to identify, evaluate, and maintain an understanding of the top-priority global public policy issues/matters affecting Zoom's business and brand.
  • Work closely with other groups and departments -- including corporate legal, product legal, privacy, security, compliance and ethics, and trust and safety -- to learn Zoom's business, understand the priorities of internal stakeholders, and create single company approaches to key policy issues that advance the interests of Zoom as a whole.
  • Coordinate cross-cutting policy initiatives and activities across the Global Public Policy and Government Relations team, to ensure that Zoom can put forward clear and consistent approaches to policy issues, while enabling those positions to be tailored for local conditions in the various markets in which we operate.
  • Drive engagement, partnerships, and thought leadership with external organizations on key public policy issues as appropriate and where not otherwise covered, for example with respect to think tanks, civil society organizations, trade associations, and the media.

About You

  • You hold a Bachelor's degree, and preferably an advanced degree, in law, public policy, business, economics, international affairs, or similar field
  • You have a minimum of eight years of experience developing and executing public policy strategies and interacting professionally in a public policy environment.
  • You have prior experience developing and executing public policy strategies in the technology sector, including with respect to privacy, cybersecurity, and online safety issues.
  • You are skilled at building diverse, cross-functional, and multi-level relationships and experience advising and interacting with senior business executives.
  • You have outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills, including relevant public speaking and media experience.
  • You have extensive experience working with senior government officials, private sector leaders, and other public policy professionals.
  • You have a high degree of integrity, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential matters.
  • You have exceptional emotional intelligence, strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to the team, and a sense of humor.
