Zoom is in search of a Policy Counsel to join the Trust and Safety (T&S) team. T&S handles complaints of abuse on the platform (such as meeting disruptions), responds to law enforcement requests from around the globe, and is building Zoom’s arsenal of tools to combat abuse both before and after it happens.

To that end, we’re seeking a Policy Counsel who can build T&S policies, both internal and public-facing, and who can be a generalist to pitch in wherever necessary on this young and growing team. You will report to the T&S head of policy and the Law Enforcement Response Team (this is one person).

Responsibilities:

• Work with T&S leadership to set & write policy priorities for the T&S team, both internal and external-facing.

• Work closely with T&S team members to understand the team’s needs. 

• Identify and work with external Zoom stakeholders (e.g. different groups of users) to understand their needs and develop policy for them.

• Periodically update our Community Standards.

• Coordinate and prepare case memos for the Appeals Panel.

• Create and present training, guides and handbooks for the T&S team and others at Zoom.

• Represent Zoom in external organizations and coalitions that relate to T&S work.

• Work with various internal stakeholders - often Government Relations, Communications and Litigation - on T&S matters, as needed.

• Prepare internal reporting, memos, and presentation material.

• Be willing and able to pitch in wherever necessary on the T&S team. Because the team is new and dynamic, all of us have generalist components to our jobs.

Requirements:

• 1-3 years of legal experience

• Ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams and to stitch together the needs of different stakeholders into elegant documents that are easy to understand and implement.

• Excellent communication skills, including by Zoom and by phone.

• Strong work ethic, efficiency, attention to detail, able to meet demanding deadlines, and ability to work independently. 

• Must be tech-savvy and enjoy learning new technologies. 

• Team-first attitude and growth mindset: every new challenge is a chance to learn and grow.

• Bonus: you have prior experience drafting laws, regulations or policy, or doing content moderation or T&S work.

• Extra bonus: proficiency in Excel, Sheets, Powerpoint or Slides
