The Engineering Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the organizational talent and technical leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.
The Ball Aerospace Internship Program is a 10-week summer program that provides interns with practical experience working on relevant projects while working with designated mentors; access to state-of-the-art equipment; a competitive wage; relocation reimbursement; in-house training; group activities; possible future employment and the ability to participate in the Ball Aerospace Remote Sensing Team (BIRST) program to build and launch a rocket or high-altitude balloon. At the conclusion of the internship, interns will be required to prepare and deliver a formal presentation of their project work to their respective department.
Technical Intern - Software Engineering
We are looking for engineers with embedded, Linux, or container development experience to join our team and make a significant impact in future architectures at Ball Aerospace. Projects range from research/development of new innovative technologies to tactical systems. Technology areas include embedded Linux, Python, C/C++, containerization, networking, devsecops, and Ruby, among others.
What You'll Do:

• Work with customer and team members to understand project requirements and scope.
• Work with team of engineers.
• Develop/modify software for emulators, tactical systems.
• Perform full software life cycle functions including software/firmware requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration and documentation.
• Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

What You'll Need:

• Must have completed your sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in a degree program for the fall of 2024. We will also accept students enrolled in a graduate degree program.
• Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
• Currently pursuing a BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field.
• Experience programming in C/C++
• Experience programming in Python
• Experience with formal software development processes.
• Excellent technical writing and team skills.
• In addition, these will set you apart: Experience developing, integrating, and software.
• Experience with real-time operating systems including FreeRTOS, micros, or embedded Linux

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Relocation for this position is not available.
Compensation & Benefits:

• HIRING SALARY RANGE: $20.80 - $29.50 per hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
