The role
As an intern to the System Safety team, you’ll be supporting the design of critical aspects of the Outrider system. This team is tasked with creating the AV system structure and developing technical solutions by applying a variety of systems engineering and functional safety methods adapted from industry standards. You will be part of a strong, diverse and small team.
Duties and responsibilities
- Align cross-functional engineering teams (including hardware, software, and safety) on unmanned vehicle system architecture by creating physical block diagrams, writing system requirements, and designing functional flow diagrams
- Help lead design reviews with key stakeholders to achieve engineering and product alignment on system architecture
- Aid the test team in creating test plans to ensure system requirements will be verified and validated
- Support unmanned vehicle prototyping and testing where needed
Required qualifications
- Bachelors or masters level student pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Math, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
- Experienced in writing system, hardware and software requirements
- Ability to decompose complex systems into workable modules
- Ability to operate in highly ambiguous and ever changing environment
- Possesses independent, self-starter mentality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ideal qualifications
- Strong interest in safe designs for complex systems
- Demonstrated interest and knowledge in robotics and/or unmanned vehicles through personal projects, prior internship experiences, and/or coursework
- Knowledge of Functional Safety standards such as IEC 61508, ISO26262
- Experience with FMEA, FMEDA, FTA methods
