Location: Boulder, CO (this position is onsite at our Boulder facility, this is not a remote internship) 

What is the Invitern Program?

The Invitern Program offers opportunities for students, recent grads, or those who are early in their career to develop industry skills through Invitae’s internship roles.

With each opportunity, we aim to create an experience for our interns (Inviterns!) that is enhanced by mentorship, networking opportunities, and impactful work. Throughout the duration of this program, we hope to offer a sense of community with our Inviterns and build lasting relationships. Our hope is that Inviterns become future Invitaens!

The 2022 Summer Invitern Program is a paid internship and will start June 6th, 2022 and commence August 12, 2022.

Tech Transfer Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Tech Transfer Intern will perform technical transfers for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) and companion diagnostic (CDx) assays under the supervision of Tech Transfer scientists. This position will work closely with Operations, Research and Development (R&D) and Quality Control/Assurance (QC/QA) teams to ensure compliant and efficient transfers. This is a Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM internship. 

INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES:

  • Learn the science behind anchored multiplex PCR (AMP®) chemistry, and gain experience with NGS
  • Learn how IVD medical devices are developed and manufactured
  • Gain hands-on experience with current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and good documentation practices (GDP)
  • Build cross-functional and technical communication skills while working with R&D, Quality and Manufacturing teams
  • Gain exposure to design control and learn how to perform design transfer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job performance will involve a variety of activities including:

  • Assist with Technical Transfer of IVD assays, commercial operations processes, and test methods 
  • Assist with technical impact assessments, investigations and root cause analysis for product or process nonconformance, corrective actions or supplier issues
  • Carry out activities needed to manufacture engineering builds and pilot builds of assay components
  • Create or revise technical documentation (including manufacturing procedures, process diagrams, test methods, work instructions and batch records) to support technical transfer needs
  • Analyze and present technical data in a precise manner and communicate results and recommendations to cross functional teams
  • Communicate cross-functionally to drive progress and timely completion of projects
  • Collaborate with various functional groups such as Manufacturing, Quality Control, Logistics, Engineering and Project Management as needed to support technical transfer 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Review, understanding, and compliance with HIPAA security policies and procedures
  • Safeguarding the privacy and security of protected health information and European Union personal data

EXPERIENCE:

  • 0 – 2 years working in a laboratory
  • 0 – 2 years leadership experience
  • Coursework in molecular biology/biochemistry/biotechnology, and statistics
  • Experience writing and running command line and R scripts, preferred

EDUCATION:   

  • Undergraduate degree in a scientific discipline required.
  • Recent or upcoming M.S. graduate, preferred.

In Colorado, our hourly rate for this role starts at $22.00 an hour. In determining the final rate offered, we will evaluate a specific candidate’s education, skills, and experience.
